And so I used a Sprint 4G/3G overdrive today

That thing is ! MAN ALIVE!! So cool!

I did a job today for a construction company that's out in the field using Toughbooks with Sprint 3G and Sprint Overdrives... I was programming that Sprint overdrive to do some pretty damn cool things!

So my latest is that I think I'm gonna switch from my internal Sprint card to the Overdrive. I'm gonna leave it in my truck and when I need it outside the range of my truck I'll just bring it with me as it has a battery in it that lasts 3 hours and it charges with the SAME connector that my crackberry charges with...

    What do you all think?

I'm gonna go to the sprint store and see if it will fit in my media bay on my Toughbook if I remove my DVD drive as well!

This is beneficial because I travel a LOT, and to be able to have more than 1 person share the Sprint card WITHOUT me having to d!ck around with an Ad-Hoc network on my CF-30 would be AWESOME!

Pretty damn small... I dont' know if it's small enough to fit in a cf-30 though... cf-29 it would fit in NO PROBLEM

    I wondered about doing that...
Isn't it like $70 a month for that?

If I could figure out how to tether my blackberry to my 19, i'd be golden...

I have the Verizon MiFi and LOVE it!!!

One reason I got it is the much smaller size than the Sprint model.
Mine will go in the DVD slot of the CF30 if I wanted to but I just do what you suggested and leave it in the truck during the day.
If I need it outside the range of the truck I either stick it to the lid with Velcro or clip a little belt pouch on me and use it from there.

Did I mention I LOVE the thing?

Yeah, I'm not buying this damn thing... Plus I finally figured out Ad-hoc in Windows 7 HERE

    w00t!

BTW, the overdrive does NOT fit in the CD drive area on the CF-30...

Which provider and BB do you have? Some of the providers lock out tethering, but there's always a way around it.

Truth. Verizon love to punish smartphone owners. They also lock out tethering, though I know they're not the only ones to do so. However, there's a few apps for the BBoS that let you tether without paying their ridiculous fees. I remember when I had my LG Voyager, you could hack it right from the phone(via a 'hidden' programming menu) to enable tethering withOUT paying for the fees. At that time, my unlimited data plan on the Voyager was only 9.99 a month before work discounts, so I had unlimited mobile broadband on my laptop for under ten bucks a month. I miss those days!

My iPwn also added this feature with the 4.0 beta I mean OS. Already paying a lot for the data plan on the phone you would think they would help you out. How powerful is that overdrive? I seen the one wifi sprint had that was the size of 4 credit cards stacked up.

The only problem... SPRINT.... It's worse than AT&T in my area.... Just below T-Mobile. It may be fast... Where you get a signal.... In metro areas...

Rob, I believe your using a 30 MK3? If so, why don't you get a new GOBI 2K? Then you won't be stuck with one carrier. Verizon is going on line with there new 4G by year end. From what I have read they are going to lower the monthly rate when they go to 4G and roll the dice on the volume of subscribers. You could do the Conectify from there and then have the boest of both world's. Am I off base here with what your trying to do?

I have no desire to get off of Sprint as it works GREAT for me... and I have a Mk1, not a Mk3. PLUS, I paid over $500 for this internal sprint card for my 30 (I have a CQQAXBM model so it is WWAN Ready and I just popped the card in)...

    w00t! :)

If anyone is interested in buying a Sprint Overdrive, please....do your homework! I purchased one about 4 months ago and have been regretting it for 3 of those months. Sierra Wireless has some serious issues to work out with the unit heating up and shutting down. I should have returned it for a refund within the first 30 days, but like a fool, I didn't. Now I'm stuck with the most unreliable, frustrating air card that IMHO, has ever been put out on the market. I've exchanged it twice and I still have the same heating / shutting down issues. Maybe in time someone will get the bugs worked out and if that ever happens the Overdrive be a fine card to have. But until then, I'd run...run away as fast as you can. I wish I had :(

I tether through my Verizon Droid. I am not a road warrior so I don't use the WWAN in my CF-30.... But when I do need to connect... I tether.
