I bought one of these and Samantha liked it so much that we are selling her Samsung Epic 4G and I've already bought her one as well. The main reason is because of the battery life. The battery life on this DROID phone is AMAZING. Also, it's HALF the size (yes the screen is smaller but that's fine). This phone is IDENTICAL in shape, feel, weight and size to Samanthas old Nokia E71 when she was still on Tmobile. That is the other reason she likes it.

I ended up paying $376 for mine (OUCH), BUT I snagged hers for only $225! We will both use the Direct Connect Walkie Talkie too like in the old days! :)

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

What do you think? I'm happy. It isn't IP rated (for water) but it IS Mil 810 rated for cold, heat, drop, shock and crush. It has "gorilla glass", which is supposedly a bullet proof glass for phones. They say you can't scratch it either. Only time will tell on that claim.

    My life is complete!

I have a rugged laptop, camera, and phone now! Samantha has a Rugged laptop, camera and phone as well!

Well of course, you americans and your bloody facination with CDMA. Finally a phone that could survive my job longer than a month and i cant freaking use it in europe. Tell me, is the galaxy conspiring against me? Or just the mobile manufacturers?

Well i guess i should contine to buy 20$ nokias and samsungs every month for a while longer...

Well if there was one thing i learned about you americans is that you're incredibly stubborn. And like you said, doing everything your own way. :D

I can respect that, hell, wouldnt last a minute with me girlfriend if i didnt. But sometimes i wish you lot learned the word standardization.

Fyi, cdma was shut down in the 90's over here. There are cdma variations that are still being used, but the version you are using was abandoned. Thats why american mobiles are worth slightly more than bricks. I've actually earned quite a few quid by buying cdma phones here for basially nothing and sending them to me mate in LA, who later sold them and we shared the profit. You wouldnt belive how many europeans buy mobiles in the US hoping for them to work over here.

I don't think you are going to win this battle. :p

But, I do have a SIM card available to me in my Sprint Motorola Photon, even though it is natively CDMA (obviously, Sprint, duh).

    Best of both worlds!

Why do i get the feeling you're ganging up on me? :D

My gives up! My gives up!

Heh, don't give up just yet. CDMA was that good that everywhere else stepped over it and moved to a standardised 3G without a backward glance. Yes it's better than GSM+ - 2 1/2G plus EDGE) but then that's not saying much. :D

Said with tongue firmly in cheek.

The Admiral sure seems nice, but I wish it was more water-resistant, as that is what usually kills my stuff.

Rob™, the Gorilla glass I've had so far has held up fine, but I have heard of people scratching it nevertheless. If I understand it correctly it is basically a compressed, denser glass. It seems to be more scratch resistant, but I'm not sure if it will hold up much better against stronger impacts. I'll rather stay careful with my screens. It would be nice to get sapphire crystal like on watches, but I guess that is expensive at screen sizes.

ares93, have you had a look at the other rugged Android phones available in Europe? I'm quite fond of my little Sony-Ericsson Xperia Active: fairly inexpensive, Gorilla glass and IP67, which is better than a lot of stuff made by traditional rugged manufacturers. Of course, it is a very different type of phone compared to the Admiral - no keyboard, small screen, looks like a toy. There is also the Motorola Defy+, and Samsung will be coming out with a rugged Galaxy-variant, as far as I know.

Uhm... Dial the number really, really quickly? :D

    EDIT:
From the home screen, touch phone icon Image
    Touch Contacts
Touch the contact that you want to add.
Touch the Star next to the contacts name to turn it red and add to Favorites list.

I found the star... Tapped it and it turned GREEN... Now what?

EDIT: I can add a "Contact Quick Tasks" to the screen via "Motorola widgets" then select the contact (my wife for example) then her mobile... and it adds this MASSIVE thing to the empty spot on one of my pages.... HARDLY PRACTICAL considering on my Blackberry I had about 19 speed dials I used on a regular basis...

I've got a DroidX for personal use and was just given an iPhone4 for work... I have to say that I like the DroidX better. I have both in a stock Verizon nylon case/holster and have dropped the DroidX many times from 4-5 feet... No issues yet. I have also used it in the pouring rain with no issues. I will try to call Rob from the bottom of the pool and see if I can make a connection. ;)

I hope the U.S. never standardize if metric is the standard. I was around for Whitworth, then UNF/UNC and then the metric. As a person that turned the spanners/wrenches, metric threads are without doubt the pits, "in my opinion". Then the Bast--ds messed about with the sausages and stopped us rapping our Fish and Chips in newspaper, hey I like lead in my pencil. Bob

The Iphone 4 and iPad's use Gorilla glass as well. It's actually pretty hard to scratch the surface. I would not say it's more "impact Resistance" though.
