Seems Panasonic have now discontinued the Android-based FZ-A2 tablet? Anyone know if that's the case?

They still sell new for around A$2k here to buy the base model, and up to about $3k for the top model.

Has Panasonic crippled the things in the same way they did with the FZ-A1 and never offered an Android OS upgrade to a newer version?

Is there going to be a new 10.1" screen Android-based model (FZ-A3 maybe)?

All the FZ-A2's available here are said to be Mk 1's. Is (or was) there a Mk 2 or later?

I wonder if a diy port of a newer Android version could be managed?

Like CyanogenMod used to be, now LineageOS.

There is an entire community of programmers porting new and custom versions of Android to older/existing phones. XDA Developers used to be my jam.

Your best bet would be to get a Cf-20 convertible tablet instead, you could install android on it if you wanted to. If there is enough interest i can try to install it on mine.

With the FZ-A1, the firmware was very 'locked down' and Panasonic seemed to impose a lot of restrictions on the 'core' configuration of the underlying Linux OS which limited what the Android overlay was able to do.

I've seen a FZ-A2 recently and there seem to be a lot less limitations with the Android 6.x offered on that model.

There weren't any overly successful attempts to 'root' the FZ-A1 and get it loaded with a 'generic' Android release later than 4.0.3 unfortunately.

The 6.x 'factory' release on the FZ-A2's is definitely a lot better.

Is there going to be an FZ-A3 model?

Yeah but this community never works on the devices I've owned. The price I pay for enjoying unsupported but obscure yet supercool Android phones and tablets. :p

Any chance I can boot this to windows 10?

I am eager to put this to windows 10 instead... android sucks!!!

I got a cheap FZ-A2 bargain won in auction and loved my Toughbook CF20

Windows 10 should run on Atom processor. Maybe non-Android Linux of some sort too. Might just try booting from live Linux USB and see if it works. If Linux detects and runs most hardware, likely Windows will too.

I personally would not attempt it with a Toughpad but,
It's not that bad for roses.

I am a bit hesitant to try. But what if i successfully rooted to windows 10 pro I don’t think I can go back again to Android is it? The bios doesn’t show any to boot via USB or something.

But when I tried android on cf-a2 I was very disappointed. So I wanted to root windows 10.

The tutorial I linked talked about using Linux.

The Intel Atom processor is not really fast enough to run Windows 10 applications that you’d normally use on a laptop or desktop.

Linux is a better choice for many reasons.

You are better off just selling it and buying a Windows based tablet.
My advice is if you are afraid to root a device then DON'T do it.

But if you really are into pain and frustration here is another tutorial on how to magically change your Android into a Windows tablet. I have never used this and I know ZERO about it.
(Do you have a Win10 COA and/or serial number?) You MUST have one to put Win 10 on your tablet.

Thanks Guys. I am afraid to try and mess up the toughpad Fz-A2. So I decided not to tough it as I have a CF-20 from work anyways. I’ll stick and learn more about android I guess.
