Dudes, check this:
Another newbie now has a "shed load" of information on what to do & how to do it, so thanks for the info so far.
At some point in time, we were all "Virgins" so spare a thought for those of us who still are![]()
I've installed "Bejeweled" on the MK2, over 10 million sold worldwide so they say (that's Bejeweled & not the CF-29 Mk2)& it's been swiftly commandeered by the "Bride" (bless her), leaving me looking for another "Panny".
I've no objections to trawling through thread after thread provided it end's in a result! it's approaching 3.30 AM GMT (my eye's hurt & the heads spinning) & I'm still searching for the following info: A breakdown of CF-29FTN23KE. (I've done the Configurator) quite specifically need the 2 & 3.
Now tell me I've got the model number wrong & the wrists are likely to shed wine - ello, or at least a "Virgin" squeal - ello, ello.
many thanks o.g.

Do you have a pull out antenna on the lid?
Don't know about the 23 or the last country code but this I do know

Hi Tomcat,
Looking at the not so clear photo's, no antenna on the lid.
My understanding is that the 'E' designates a European source of distribution as opposed to North American (newbie doing his home work).
Good hit on you're part with the battery security screw - another new one for the information list. How did you decipher this?
Am I right in saying the 'F' designates a Federal model with different configurations hence the 23? or have I got my wires crossed? boom, black smoke
What caught my eye with this is it's obviously 'old hat' in that its a MK2, but described as being 'Brand new - never used'. so I'd rather go for a pristine condition MK2 rather that an average MK3 for a similar amount of dollars.
This forum is 'World Renowned' for it's knowledge & expertise in Toughbooks! so what's the 23 designating??
Where ever you are in the world, answer this question & you will receive a FREE pot of English tea & a fresh cream cake (you pay the shipping)
many thanks o.g. -
Are you sure about that model number?
I thought Federal was North America only. -
F is not Federal, It just indicates that the unit does not have WIFI installed from Panasonic
-
Here is some info.
The E means it is a UK model.
Short Manual -
CF-29FTN23KE
CF 29
F.......Mk2 1.3ghz Pentium M...No Wifi.. Federal only on USA models
T.......13.3 XGA Touchscreen
N.......40GB hard drive..512mb ram..Probably 256mb on mb + 256mb in slot
2.......Same as mine..Floppy drive..Ethernet..No Bluetooth
3
I have more information on what exactly the 2 designates but I can't find it at the moment. I think the 3 is listed also. I will keep looking.
K.........Windows XP Pro
E.........United Kingdom model -

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your help.
Denrosten:
I'm not 100% sure of the model number I'm attempting to derive at the correct factory shipped spec before I part with my cash!. I've increased the size of the picture in the bios page & derived at that model number. That said, a visit to the opticians is probably long overdue! :roll eyes:
deere245 :
I found the same info on Toughwiki before my original post, I didn't want to hack you guy's off with the same old newbie questions so I did as much hunting around as I could. I'm now conceding that I've had a george-moment.That being a moment in time when the information does not register, so I stand corrected that 'E' designates English distribution with a different keyboard to that of the North American, Belgian, French, etc, etc, variety.
TBtech29:
The Panny configurator I have looked at indicates no WLAN & (Federal Only) on a CF-29F with no option to change the distribution channel to anything other than Spanish. Does anybody know of a configurator that gives the 'S' option mentioned in another thread?
many thanks o.g.
deere245 :
You have sent a second post while I was in the process of making my afternoon tea, Good info, you're the Man dude.

The "K" nowadays would normally indicate which version of Windows the unit ships with, but I'm not sure if this was the same back in CF-29 days.
And as has been mentioned the "E" stands for English(UK) - not European (there is no "European" model - each country has different keyboards, versions of Windows to ship with and there are 3 or 4 standards of power cables needed in Europe for various places). -
-
23 designates General Dynamics (MoD)
-
The 23 Designates the special customer, (Federal)
-
Quite - the numbers indicate the customer. They replace 2 letters that would be there on a "normal" customer model that would help identify the exact configuration.
And in any case, due to the "E" on the end, this is an English(UK) model, and there is no equivalent of the "federal" Government - there are only specific individual departments of HMG. -

You guy's have returned some good info here. Thanks for your time & effort.

I've drunk a whole pot of tea & consumed all the cream cakes whilst reading & digesting this information. You've answered my question so please except a personal I.O.U. for a Pot Of English Tea & a Fresh Cream Cake.

Earl Grey is a blend of tea named after Prime Minister Earl Grey the 2nd, typically black or pekoe cut black tea with oil and rind of orange to give its distinctive flavor. Supposedly, Robert Jackson & Co holds the "original" recipe, handed down from said PM to one of the partners for his personal use, like way back in the 1800s.
To my knowledge, PG Tips does not make an Earl Grey blend of any sort.

Everything stops for tea. -
I'm a Brit....I know my teas!
PG Tips is a specific blend of different teas into one drink, and is one of the (if not the most) popular teas in Britain - and is different to the traditional Assam, Darjeeling, Breakfast, Earl Grey etc etc teas therefore. As you say, they don't make an Earl Grey tea as they use their own blend.
Plus they used to use monkeys in their TV adverts. Anything that uses monkeys much be 3 times cooler. -
The best monkey ads of all time. Make sure you click the red x in the lower right corner of the vid to turn the sound on. It is defaulted to off.

It would be like us colonists saying that Folgers was the best coffee... they have a dozen very popular blends, all of which are different. (I like their 100% Columbian half & half with their Hazelnut or Gevalia Irish Cream, both of which are a flavored Arabica blend). They are hardly the BEST coffee available here in the States... but they are definitely one of the most popular.
Besides - Sock Monkeys are the spawn of Satan... that's why they're so funny.

"The best laid plans of mice & men can often go awry"
you're not joking george! the 29F that started this thread sold for more than I was willing to pay, in fact a CF-30MK1 sold for less!
Thinking I would have little use for an existing 29MK1 in the immediate future, I transfered the 1GB in the slot into the brides MK2E. I'm now left with the 256MB which has difficulty loading everything - including this page, & even more annoying a keyboard that you need to use a 2lb hammer on each key. They must have put the backlite in so you know which direction to throw the hammer in the dark. lol
I can smell a number of mod's comming on, or is it the kettle boiling!
onwards & upwards dudes.
