The CF-28 MK2 800mhz I had was giving me a lot of issues, iexplorer would close with a warning, GPS took a long time to lock, ect. I purchased a 1ghz CF-28 MK3 with everything but a harddrive. GPS, 802.11 wireless, touchscreen, etc. I used the hdd out of the old one, loaded XP sp2 with no problems, all drivers from DJACID, and Toughbook. Using winfast Navigator, I just locked onto 4 sats in less than 3 minutes. This new Toughbook is great. It doesn't look like it was ever used, just a scuff from storage. Thanks everyone for all the help with the other one. I hate to do any mods to this one since it is working so well and is unmarked.

I don't know if any of the 800mhz came with a XP pro COA sticker. My 1ghz even has a win2k COA.
No not IAFF, AFGE. I work for the Department of defense. -
Mine does, and I've seen a few others...but all with the 12.1 so far. I believe mine is x DOD if the release/swipe data on the bottom are correct.
Most of the ones I've seen in the configuration I want have been win2k COA too. Holding out for an XPpro but might have to cave at some point.

Edit - I see that sdresellers has them again... I really need to buy one of those. They look to be in great shape. I think Modly bought one from him too. -
Yup, I bought one from him but it was defective, and at the time he had no others to exchange it with.
Give us details about the GPS unit, maybe ours all are missing something. -
And the settings please...

Its the same unit as the 800mhz, the Panasonic CN-GX0100a, I/O 2E8/IRQ10 COM 4. Doesn't seem to be any different parts inside for the GPS, the only thing different is the factory WIFI. Its the Cisco aironet 350 100mw card in the internal pcmcia slot. It came with a harddrivve caddy but no hard drive. There is a extra what looks like an antenna that goes around the hard drive under the copper heat sink. It reminds me of those cell phone extender antennas that dont work that go into the cell phone battery compartment. Its probably there to shield the drive from electrical interference. However I dont have that caddy in there right now. I bought it here off E-Bay; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170140529114&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=007 I probably paid too much for it but it looks like new. Those are the actual pictures on the E-bay site.

Bigfoot... Is the screen daylight readable? It looks to have the sensor on the LCD frame. How readable is it?
I don't think you paid too much... You got the extra RAM and GPS... I think a good price! -

Its readable in the shade down here. there is also a new GPS driver that Panasonic came out with. It is on that site that I posted about the other day. I'll e-mail it to you. That is the only thing different on this machine. It says it is compatable with all cf-28's.
-
Did you save the original driver before loading the new one?
-

No, I didn't have the original driver for this mk3. It came with no hard drive.
-
the other GPS driver is the same thing only difference is that it comes with with a pdf file explaining about the gps fitter driver.......

Wow, that's a nice machine. factory GPS *and* 802.11! Now, I thought there was supposed to be a "bump" antenna on the modem/LAN side for the factory 802.11. You're saying the antenna is infact in the bowels of the machine, in the hard drive compartment?! wierd. I'm eager to hear how well it works.. I bought an aironet 350 card for mine in hopes of making it work in the hidden slot.

Actually, the antenna is external, There is no NIC rj-45 connection and the slot cover protrudes about an 1/8 inch, and the antenna is built in to it. I will try to get a picture up of it.

Here are a couple of pics.

Now that's a first for me... I never knew they made an antenna like that. I always thought it was a smaller RIM type antenna. How's the reception?
-

Its actually pretty good. I replaced the Cisco 100mw card with the 300mw Zcomax card and it works real well. But it would be a lot better with an external antenna.

cool,
i seen some with that antenna,
i looked around a little while bach to see if i could buy one of ebay but never saw them, so gave up
anyway it looks really nice all compacted together, one little tuffybook.......
Another new toughbook
