Windows 7 comes with something called XP mode. In XP mode you can run a XP virtual machine seamlessly on windows 7 desktop. This lets you use legacy programs [Simcity 2000 and duke nukem!] easily. As well as these legacy programs, I installed some of my old networking and tracing tools in there too. I want to get Ubuntu in the VM, but its already dual booting that anyways.
THIS link is to the How-to. I was upset that Microsoft required Hardware VM support to use this, but the guys over at VMlite fixed that! According to Microsoft, you need Intel V-pro [or AMD equivalent] But there has never been a proven advantage to that! I can tell you it runs well on my MK1 with 3gb of ram, both 7 and this VM.
This is free. Follow the guide. Not useful unless you need lots of XP compatibility and it sucks up a few gigs of space. I install Fiber networks and this lets me run my older and better tools.
