    Anti-Static shipping?

    I've got a issue and need some advise.

    I sold a cf-29 motherboard on ebay.

    I took it out of a working 1.6 CF-29 toughbook, in anticipation of putting in in a new looking case, but never got around to it, so sold it.

    The buyer originaly told me they would buy if I would install it, as they had noone to do it and thought they had a bad motherboard; but when I told them I didnt have the time, they bought it anyway and I shipped it.

    That was over a month ago they got it, and today I get an email from them saying their installer says the motherboard is bad, that its probubly bad because the bubble wrap I sent it in wasnt anti-static buble wrap, and so they want all their money back including shipping or they'll file a complaint.

    I'm not worried about it, I know it was working, the auction was as is, no returns, and I have no way of knowing what their "installer" may have done, or if the problem is even the motherboard.

    I'd just like to know what is the probubility that the motherboard could have been killed by static, based on packing in bubble wrap. It was in a ziplock back, wrapped in bubble wrap, in a cardboard box. I have no carpets or issues with static, and have never had a problem with any part sent or received. I just like to know from the educated masses.

    i don t think static would kill the mo board especially that little ive shipped lots of items in bubble wrap and never had it happen. i have a surplus of very large anti static bags that i dont need any more, pm me and maybe we can make a trade.lol

    I put PCBs in bubblewrap all the time, and so does panasonic, FROM FACTORY, I think they are trying to scam you with the "old" board saying its the one you sent.

    Static electricity is not much of a problem here in Florida but it can be a big problem elsewhere. Especially in colder dry weather. Especially being transported by conveyor belt, truck or plane.

    I've made a living as an electronics tech and electrical engineer for large companies, and they always make a big deal about anti-static wrist straps for handling and storing electronics in anti-static packaging. Even in Florida.

    A Toughbook mobo has a CPU chip, ram, graphics chips, and other sensitive electronics. If this were MythBusters I'd call it "Plausable"

    In the future suggest always using anti-static bags for electronics. The pink and blue bubble wrap is also made from special anti-static (conductive) plastic.

    Did they leave positive feedback on the item? If so that will work in your favor stating they were happy with the product as received.

    I doubt that shipping in bubble wrap caused any problems. I think either it's a scam or they have another problem with the laptop.
    Besides how could they possibly know that any static affected the mobo? They came up with a solution to a problem that did not exist! Why would they have not just said the mobo you sent is bad 1st? Why assume it was static?
    I say since you put as is in the ad, you should be covered. Just out of curiousity, it would be interesting for you to contact customer support on the ebay and see what they would say before the complaint is filed from the buyer.
    Does AS IS mean AS IS? If ebay refunds the money then AS IS means nothing on ebay.

    I am beyond pissed at the moment, as Ebay opened a case and seized 90 dollars from my paypal account.

    In the buyers account today to Ebay, she goes on about how her "professional Installer" says the packaging caused it to be bad. Though throughout her narrative complaint to Ebay, in making her case, she keeps refering to it as a bad hard drive I sold her, not a motherboard. She cant even keep it straight in her own story.

    It wouldnt be such an issue, but I had to get up way early today to drive three hours in each direction for a two hour class on how to respond to, "hey dude, dont touch my junk"

    Enroute, I get the seizure notice from ebay on my money, and not five minutes later paypal sends me one saying theyre seizing another $70 for a laptop I shipped out yesterday, that was suspicious, because the buyer bought it and paypal'd from an unfamilliar computer, REALLY.

    An hour after that, a beep on the blackberry and I get an email from my son's 2nd grade teacher, who reports he's been a rude disruptive kid the last two days, she is so over him, can't wait for school to end.

    I am so over this day....
