Good!
Yesterday I walked into Orgasm City, AKA Buytough.com My lord do I love that place. This is the place where I bought my 1st CF-30, lucked out with them being local.
Anyway, I pop in there from time to time when I need an assy or whatever. They are technically not open to the public, but they have always been pretty cool with me. It is not a huge office, kinda like a old city loft type building. It's like you have entered into the Toughbook world. Nothing but TB's everywhere, TB posters hanging, and I mean some pictures and posters I would die for. They do alot of configuring there if you order one. He told me yesterday the ONLY thing they can't do is the GPS systems. Panasonic will not allow them to. The guy I deal with was loading some software on anew F8, man is that thing nice! You really never get to see these things in person very often, or at least I don't, not the various models. I am still amazed at how small the 19 is. Everytime I see one down there it blows me away at the size.
If you are ever in Atlanta and need some stuff, get in touch with them. They are all very good guys in there. They do alot of sales to major cities, police agencies, stuff like that.
A little bit of interesting news I didn't know....As I was leaving we were talking about one day I am going to drop off my 30 to him so he can send it to HeartLand to get the GPS installed. Get busy Rick! Cough Cough...
He said that since Heartland was bought out that the turn around time is nothing like it used to be. It used to be a 3 or 4 day max turn around, now he said it can be 2 weeks. I didn't ask him who bought then out, does anybody know?
The whole reason I went down there was to pick up a new Multi Drive. I am so tired of not being able to burn discs with only having a Combo Drive. Yea, I can buy them a little cheaper online, but they cut me a pretty good deal on stuff, plus I like being loyal to people that take care of there customers like they have with me. Man is this new drive faster than the Combo!
Later!

interesting title, really...
BTW, I live in SC and I have just planned a trip to Atlanta. -
Hey Gothed,
Where in SC? My home is in Summerville, but I am playing geographic bachelor because of the job. Been here in Mexico Beach, FL since June of last year and hope to have this job until I can draw retirement from the ANG in 3.5 years. Unless I can find something closer to home.... -
I am going to school in Columbia right now, originally from Irmo, and I also have ties to Greenville.
-
Toyo... With a first line like that... I doubt there will be too many women pipe up!
I think Charlottemoo is in the UK... And we had one who lived in SC I think... I would assume that Charlotte is female.... -
By the way... I emailed my spreadsheet order into Heartland last week... I just got a return saying that Kara isn't there any more. They also included my spreadsheet back with a few of the parts I needed. Some of the other parts that I had ordered before (Including the GPS Bumpouts for the CF-29 they said aren't made anymore! (Yeah... Right)
Now I have to find someone there again who cares and who will work with and for me instead of against me. I know that Kara's Mom had some health issues... I hope that is not why she quit.
So when were they supposed to be bought out? -
Thanks for this Steve!!! I go through Atlanta at least once a year on my way down to Florida for the cruise... (usually in late September, early October...). I would love to stop by and see this place!

Toyo
What do you think your doing!
I could of converted your drive easy
I have changed both my cf-30 drives to dvd-rw's
The gps mod in in the works right now
I have collected all the parts and by the end of the month I will report on this, that is if it works!
I need Teo's help on it so if it gets all screwed up , I am blaming him
If it works good ,I am taking credit for it of course
I don't live anywhere near Atlanta, but the internet is a very small world
I have talked in the past with Warren Riddock , he is with Mooring Tech, Inc. (BuyTough.com)
Alex -
Alex, now you freakin tell me! I have been asking you all week if you can do that! What a friend
JK.....It's my fault for not looking deeper. PLEASE let me know if you figure out the GPS. I want that bad!
I don't know Warren, I have met and talked to Jeff, who is one of the owners of Mooring Tech. I think it's him and his brother that own it. Maybe that is Warren? -
Alex... I was going to do mine but didn't want t peel the stickers of cause it looks so purdy.... Are there any hacks we need to know for the job?
-
I was able to find drives that had the same front layout as the standard cdrw/dvd drives
I just changed the bezels
And transfered the top sticky plastic
Of course the drive need to short pin45(ground) to pin 47(csel)
Toughbook lists the Mod Here
That I learned about 6 years ago from of all places a Macintosh blog
Here
I was doing it on all the Toughbooks I sold, but thinking back I wished I would of just modded the caddys and sold them
Cd caddys 6 years ago for the cf-27/cf-28 sold used for about $90 and cdrw/dvd were over $250 used, the dvd-rw were available new only from Panasonic and were over $400
M a t s h i t a uj 870 8x dvd-rw is the newest drive
M a t s h i t a uj 831S 2x dvd-rw is about 4 years old removed from a caddy that I had in my cf-29Attached Files:

Yes . . . that's true on both counts
I'm over here in chilly (Brrrr) London . . We just had Jim Carey here to switch on our 'Christmas Carol' lights in the city
And randomly . . I went and saw the premiere of the 2012 movie the other day . . makes sense to be a toughbook owner after watching that film!
Great film - fantastic CGI sequences . . Think you guy's would love it! -
You sure did get the stickers back down nice and smooth!
So you even have to solder the jumper even though it is a M a t s u s h i t a drive? -
I always use that brand
I have modified over 50 cf-29 style caddies and of coarse tried without the mod, but it always requires it
Alex -
Hmmmm... I wonder if the Sony Optiarc would take the old faceplate too?
-
Look on your drive in the cf-30 caddy
You will see if the eject/light and tabs line up
I list the panasonic drives that I used as they do line up perfect
And if Toyo can look for the brand /model used in his brand new multidrive that will probably be compatable as well
Alex
Any Women On This Board?
