I have looked at several old threads. But wondered what the 2015 answer would be for good GPS software on a CF-30 Mk1 Windows 7 (32 bit)?

Also a second question would be my CF-30 has the factory GPS would you recommend a USB one for better accuracy or it it good enough? Not looking to spend hundreds.

The newer GPS units like the UBLOX are much superior to what comes in the Toughbooks from the factory.

One of the sellers is Custom Toughbooks.

Here is an auction on eBay for a CF-30 model.

Sometimes he will have auctions and not "buy it now's". I was able to procure mine for about half of that cost.

I would give you more info, but I will be installing mine this weekend.

    What is your budget?
What will be the gps's primary use?
    What is your technical ability?

    Hardware side:
For ease of installation, go stock or an aftermarket kit.
For best performance get a Ublox...2 choices: easy install kit or fabricate it yourself.
Kit is pricy...Do it yourself is cheap, but involves skill and time.

    Software:
Microsoft Strips and Treets is discontinued.
    Garmin mobile PC is discontinued
Delorme Street atlas is still available
A lot of freeware packages are available.

    It's you... :(

Street Atlas USA 2015 PLUS DVD contains DeLorme-produced and managed United States and Canada street-level detail, plus highways and major roads for Mexico. U.S. places of interest (POIs) are updated regularly based on phone book information. Canada POIs are also included, many with phone numbers. Overall, there are more than 5 million places of interest for the U.S. and Canada.

Only reason why I ask is when you see USA it a lot of times means just USA only. A few years ago I bought "CoPilot Navigator 9" USB GPS receiver and software. It worked great until I crossed the border into Canada.

Delorme would do better with Street atlas North America, rather than Street atlas USA plus...

I'm sticking with Streets and Trips 2013 which is still available if you know the right people . I haven't tried Delorme Street Atlas but doing some reading on the Delorme user forums makes me leery. They seem to have a bit of what I call the "Apple Attitude", they decide what you need. I do use Topo North America version 7. They tell you it won't run on Win 7 but they don't know what they are talking about. Delorme "improves" each new version which, unfortunately seems to mean making it work better on their handheld units at the expense of functionality on PCs. Don't worry about the version being a little old, we aren't building a lot of new roads. As for the topo maps, they are just scanning in USGS maps which don't get updated too often. You might not mind some of the things which irk me about programs other than S & T but I'm a bit of a power user. I don't use POIs or similar functions on the navigation computer, the iPhone has that covered.

I'm not advertising Delorme at all...I never used it....It's just one of the few commercial packages that is current. Some people only want current software with tech support...
GPS software is very tough to recommend. It's like trying to recommend the best operating system without knowing what hardware or how the system is being used....I don't know what mode of transportation is being used. Is the OP hiking, boating, bicycling, driving, or flying a Cessna. If driving then what are they driving? A Smartcar, a Freightliner, or a freight train? It all makes a huge difference.......
Then we get into what part of what country are they in?

My favorite is Garmin Mobile PC, no contest...but it was discontinued 5 years ago. The activation server is shut down and you will not be able to get it activated. I would like to find a copy of the current Garmin OS for handhelds that someone ported to work on a PC..

I used Delores in the rig before I started using GPS,I could enter in my destination and check the route and miles beforehand. Then I got the android tablet and that was that. :)

I just assume that any discussion of GPS software here relates to using the software on a PC or laptop. The new smartphones pretty much cover finding stores, restaurants and similar tasks.
