Modly,
Are you referring to the little 4 pin socket on the side of the battery? If so, that is used for the external CF-VCBTB1 charger which also charges the media bay battery in my 30, and a bunch of other batteries using one of it's two leads. I was wondering the same thing, if you got the pin outs from the computer schematic wouldn't that give you all the information you need? I can put a meter on the charger pins if you like and see what I get.

It might. I'm curious how the chip can be re-programmed... Unfortunately the battery that I took apart is still in Michigan (I have a huge box of crap stored at my mother's house that I couldn't fit in the hearse, and when I go back to visit this winter, I'll ship it all back).
I don't feel like ripping apart one of my good batteries though, I'd rather mess with the one that was completely dead first. (I've got 3 new green tabs, one very good blue, and one decent blue left).
I start my new job as a stainless machinist this week, so that should take care of a few problems I've been having with being too busy for any projects (Since I've been looking for work non-stop since I got here, and the first job I got was not cutting it at all), so perhaps now I'll have some free time to mess with some Toughbook stuff.
I got this semi retarded idea with my new job, since I'll have access to some CNC's, that maybe we could make some stainless top covers for the toughbooks (With Toughbook engraved, rather than on a sticker), and a decent amount of room for a GPS antenna.... I guess we'll see what happens. -
OK, I'll look for some small wire a little later, I don't have a probe small enough to fit in the holes. There are 5 pins not 4 I see.

Hey guys i called batteryrefill.com today again. The man I talked to told me my battery was being worked on and will ship out sometime this week.
I'm crossing my fingers... it's been over a month since i placed my order with them. -
oh hey i got an email.

I don't like to talk bad about companys, but...
My experience with bat refill sounds like maos, only worse.
I hope these were isolated events... -

testing later

So here's a more in-depth thingy.
Apparently in the case with my battery, i didn't exactly get a refill per-se. the battery was sent to me was not the one i originally had. but no matter it's alright.
I received the battery with some charge in it, about 67% so i let it sit and charge up to 100.
Right now in system info, it is reporting a 6000mah capacity.
so in other words im getting a 600mah boost up from the standard macbook pro battery.
but get this. according to the batteryrefill site, they say

Ordered a battery for my 28 on August 8th, did not get it until October 17th. As for the battery itself its awesome. I use this 28 at work, sits outside on my toolbox. Generally Ill use it for 5-10 minuets every hour or so and it runs most of the day on a charge. Sent them a blue tab got back a blue tab. This is the first time I have used BatteryRefill but so far so good for me anyway....

Just found this post, and even if it is late, if I can keep you away from these people, I will. Also know as eBattery. There are other posts on the web about them, but in a nut shell, DO NOT USE THEM! I sent my money through paypal, got the label, have not heard a word since. No response to emails, to messages on any number I can find, personal, tech, general number, nothing. It has been months. I am beginning to think there is fraud involved, but we will have to wait and see. Otherwise it is just massive incompetence and rudeness. Stay away.
-
They have really gone down hill, and it's a shame. I bought 5 from them and 4 were top notch (took a fortnight to get em, but they worked!). The 5th, don't get me started... Anywho, I know they are not fraudulent in that I live fairly close and have actually driven there a few times. I think they just grew too big, too fast and can no longer handle it. Unless of course they've jumped ship since 2 months ago, they are a real company with a real building, with real operational issues. I am with you though, DO NOT USE EM!!

Battery Refill is hit or miss. They get their batteries from China (HELLO). One good thing I've found is Ian. He seems to be the manager. A good guy. He has no control but can help you out and will if you explain the situation to him. I've dealt with him for two years or more and have had good batteries and bad ones. There you have it. Spark

Ian sits at the front desk and answers the phone. There are 3 phone guys. All are very nice, and their customer service is great, but if you can't deliver the product, I really don't care how nice you are to me.
Just my 2 cents... -
Something may be happening here, I have emailed, phoned multiple times and have yet to get any response. When I last talked to them, I got an RMA number and a mailer label. Later I got an email confirming receipt of my battery. Since then, NOTHING. Does anybody know if they are still in business?

I know for sure that i will never use this company after the reviews and comments here.
