I didn't want to make the name of the thread too long :)

If you have more than one TB, same line, but just different Mk's. Example being, I have 2 Cf-30's, one is a MK2, other is a MK3. I love the extra brightness of the MK3 with it being a touch model. Besides that feature, I don't really use anything else on it. Except the faster CPU and such of course. I don't use the Touch that much to say I can't live without it.

Here is where my pondering comes into play. My MK2 simply is just perfect. It never has any hiccups, problems with software, etc. I can set that puppy down and close the screen, come back 2 weeks later and open it up and it pops right to where I left it at in less tha 5 seconds with the battery almost still the same. Stuff like that my MK3 would be spinning it's little head trying to figure out what the hell to do. Why is that???? It has me so perplexed that I can't seem to figure out why. I load the OS the same way on each of them each time, etc.

Is this sometimes how computers can be? I am so close to making my MK2 my primary one and selling the MK3 and move on.

    Seeking some opinions of course..............

I have zero problems with my CF-29, I have been very happy with it. :D

Now that I have doomed myself to failure however with this modest boast, my world will be a very different place... ;)

My CF-17 has worked flawlessly since 2003, needing only a new CMOS battery. Never even had to reload the OS. Plug it in, turn it on, do the job, turn it off, throw it back into its bin in the back of the van. Awesome.

Same with my old CF-28. The only problem I have with it is the battery seems to slowly drain when it's turned off. Other then that it it works flawlessly. Even with the bigger harddrive and more ram I installed. It's heavy and not exactly fast, but In 100 degree summers and below zero winters its never failed to work for me.

The Touch works great. Everything on it works and is in like new shape. I just can't figure out why it won't run like my MK2? It should run better in my opinion.

I wonder if its related to the change in Bios. My CF-30K has a American Megatrend Bios. It seems to boot slower or hang at the bios screen more than the CF-30C and CF-30F both which have the Phoenix BIOS.

Duh! It is sitting in my "To Do" pile, right after my L1A1 Enfield Restoration. Since the Enfield is getting more valuable and the Toughbook is getting less, maybe I ought to change the order...

I have a fondness for the cf-29's as some of them have tons of hours and don't miss a lick. The cf-51's have had only minor temp problems on the high hour units but did the thermal pad trick and are more in line with the lower hour units. have a couple cf-18's but don't use them but worked well when I did. will look into the cf-30 mk2 as I don't have one of those yet. Hey Az, I like the old springfields '03's myself. got an old enfield that needs rebarreling that was my father-in-laws................Driller

To answer the original question: I have about 370 identical systems that I am responsible for at work and yes, some just work better than others. They are identical in every way (at least when they leave my hands)- I have a single hard drive image, a meticulous setup proceedure that I follow with every one I build and they are identical hardware, BIOS, etc. Yet sometimes I will have one machine noticibly slower or just plain act wierd. No hardware issues I can find, they just behave badly for some reason. And yet others will spend three years being flogged by a user and come back still running like a champ.
