Yeah, I bought mine from Kemplar.com about a month or so ago. I get about 7.5 hours on a standard charge with the WiFi turned off. With WiFi turned on I get around 4 to 4.5 hours. It's really a great laptop if you're a travelin' man.

Kemplar converts the unit to English, so it came with all the requisite English language apps and drivers. Why? Are you thinking of purchasing it in Japan yourself?

I was, but when I asked the sales man in japan if I could instal US windows my self he said that the drivers are not on the web site.
but yeasterday I left Japan. With out the laptop. But my dads friend in Japan knows somebody from panasonic there and he asked him about the US windows. So I will maybe get it but if I had the drivers I could just buy it and tell somebody to bring it from japan now. Its only 1540dollars in Japan.

I have had an R4 for 5 months and been impressed with many aspects. Seem to have 6 hours + but not carried out scientific check. PCMCIA slot is used to upload 1GB CF cards through Viking adapter and is fine. Weight size and keyboard use are remarkable, and the display is excellent for AV use (ProShowGold / Pics 2 exe) - also happily drives the projector / usb wireless mouse and usb speakers plus a usb hub with extra HD (no external power).

Only problem has been memory upgrade - mine is 512 plus spare slot. have tried two Transcend modules TS512MPA0512U without success. Anyone any experience on this? Also would be interested in any recommendation on light CD/DVD USB read without external power.

I got one from Dynamism last year. With generous usage of the 3G card, I can get over 4 hours on a charge.

I've had my R3 for almost a yr now. (1.1G processor)
With wifi on, i get about 4+ hrs when brightness set at about 60%. This is when the processor's dropped to 600mhz.

I'd say the only chance to get 7hrs is ..

    1. Dim screen to abt 30% or less (IF you can still read it then)
    2. Disable as many devices within device manager as you can (I've disabled PCMCIA, SD, Modem, etc)
    3. Disable wifi.

Also take a look at this tool Notebook hardware control. Allows you to tweak various power / voltage settings which may increase battery life.
