The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Hi All,
long time gone, busy with stuff.

Forum seems a bit - quiet?

Avast quote Reuters article from 2 days ago saying that 273 million email accounts have been hacked. My Gmail spam filter caught this today.

No google results for StreamSmooth, nothing on the forum I can find.

    Changing passwords obviously.

there has been a compromise of many gmail accounts .
i keep getting pinged by "avast" .
    oh yeah ...
"avast" seems to be fairly light on resources and thus places less of a load on my '30 and other machines .

Yes I got it too, titled "Notebook Reviews account information". It links to "http: //benchemail.bmetrack.com/c/u?e=952E15&c=9B952&t=0&l=43529BF1&email=MLU9OIzaeUCc0hhhlIPQwDciHg%2FVbFy1" to " Manage Your Subscription and Profile" for an outfit I've never heard of either. Tying our email addresses to a forum is getting universal. There's a special place in Hades for these spammers. Changed password.

    Hi everyone,

Just posted this over in another thread, but will add it here too:

This message was sent to some members using email addresses obtained from a systems breach that occurred in 2013 due to a vBulletin security vulnerability. Some members received a similar email from the same company (StreamSmooth aka UseMyTV) in October 2015. We do not believe our systems/user information have been compromised since that 2013 breach.

We are doing everything we can to pursue the violators and prevent any future solicitations of this type. Apologies again for any inconvenience.

If you have any additional questions or information that you think would be helpful, please reply to this thread or message me directly.

    Thanks,
    Ben (forum admin)

    can you imagine that ...
a thief so lazy that he can't be bothered to write his own fresh material ?!
in the music industry the guy would be known as a "cover hack" ... he plays others songs .
sort of like : "michael bolton screams the greatest hits of everybody else" .
