Right now I'm leaning towards getting the Panasonic Toughbook Y7 (after ruling out numerous other laptops for nitpicky reasons). My sister has had 2 Toughbooks, though, and with both she had the problem that the connection from the power cord to the computer got loose over time, so that if you moved the computer at all it would disconnect and drain the battery. Which of course isn't good.

Has anyone experienced this with their Toughbook (Y7 or other)?

    Thanks!

I am afraid that you have to open up the whole system and resolder the the dc jack.

My experience is with 25s, 27, and 28s. The AC adapter jack (and the adapter itself) is no more "tough" than anyone else's design, but I haven't seen an epidemic of them failing, either. I've had probably 100 or more used toughbooks cross my hands (many of which were beaten to he**) and i can only recall one of them with a loose power jack.

The only good design I've seen is in the new Apple laptops (The magnetic connector), but the power adapters can still break if you pull on them wrong too many times. At least the laptop connector is safe though.

However in my experience with the 28's, I've never seen one broken and they are an easy to solder back design.

This is not a "Toughbook Issue" as I have seen this and repaired this issue on all sorts of laptops. Especially the older ones. With a little care and not "yanking" out the cord as a lot of people do when they disconnect the power cord.... The Toughbook (Any laptop) will work fine for years.
