That model has the trans-flective screen, basically, that sensor, when it detects sunlight will shut off the backlight and use the sunlight to illuminate the screen

I believe he has a Mk1 with the special Daylight screen - that hole is for the sensor that automatically adjusts screen backlighting. Nice clean looking unit!

First: what is/are the Model Number/s of the CF-29s you have?

Second: while maybe not the exact Enfora model, this may help:

Enfora – the GSM/GPRS/EDGE Low Power Platform

When you say paperweight, you talking about a valuable one like a baccarat paperweight, a priceless one like the one your kid brings home from the first grade for fathers day, or petrified buffalo turd your Aunt Edith mailed home from her vacation to Nebraska. :D

Oh well, thanks for the info :(

Indeed. CDPD was a data network technology for AMPS mobile networks... AT&T shut down those airwaves quite a while back. In the scheme of things...

AMPS-->TDMA-->GSM/CDMA--> To the now current UMTS/CDMA/1xEV.

I'm a network engineer for AT&T and we shut down general availability of those frequencies in 2002 I believe. Then later on in late '05-'06 they were shutdown all together. Analog spectrum is being sold off by the FCC for 4G networks that uses that spectrum (800-900Mhz). No US carrier offers CDPD service anymore.

I have a CDPD card laying around from a CF-27... it's anyones for the cost of shipping!

AFAIK, CPDP networks are dead so these cards are useless.

    Thanks

Don't overlook the ease of upgrading the sled to another modem or even a GPS only sled. Your toughbook has all the internals to make it wireless ready so just because CDPD is dead you still have a valuable unit with a few options.

One thing everyone's overlooking here: just because orphanlr's CF-29CRKGADM was originally CDPD-equipped does not mean the N4A (Enfora) card is CDPD.

In fact, if anyone read the N4A link I posted they would have noticed that the cards are on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE Low Power Platform.

    @orphanlr:

Post all the information from the card you show in the photo; this may help better identify it. :)

    Anyone call "dibs" yet?

It's way cool only 'cause I haven't fought with one yet. Will it run Ubuntu?

It is about 1 inch by 2 inch device that screws into the bigger sled, then a coupe of connectors.

Well, I suppose there might be some areas in the wilds of Borneo or South Africa where analog cellular still works; the rest of the world has moved on to slightly less brick-like wireless communication... I have no idea who they think they're going to sell that chrome-plated tvrd to.
