I want to get years out of my battery for my CF-C1 (and soon to arrive W8).

I've enabled ECO mode and noticed the obvious cap at 80% charge.

Does anyone use ECO mode? Is it really worth losing 20% of battery charge?

    I have used it
It's fine if your laptop is used on the ac adapter normally
The benefit is that your the battery will have a longer life
The downside it the reduced capacity when you are on battery only

Yes. I was planning on using it with the W8 and wish the rest of my computers had it. In my experience the batteries in my laptops seem to work well for about 1.5-2 years. After that they drop off. I would much rather have say 3 hours of life vs almost 4 yet have that 3 hours for 3+ years. Also, remember, you can turn ECO mode off to get that long battery life for that airplane ride or time you really need the longer life.

I believe most recent Toughbooks have ECO mode, they just didn't always call it that. Just set "high temperature" mode in the bios.

ahh that explains to me what "high temperature mode" means :)
in addition to "normal" and "high temperature" I also have the choice of "auto" - any idea what that does then?
