I currently own a CF-29 but I see tigerdirect has CF-74's offlease and was thinking about upgrading. Are they as tough as the CF-29? Worth it?

They are semi-rugged, you would not want to stand on one, like you can on the fully rugged type
They use a fan for cooling ,so no in a dusty environment not as good -
Rough difference:
CF-74 = Hotter, Faster , Noisier, more "mobile". SATA.
CF-29 = Cooler, Slower, Heavier, better stationary workstation, dust resistant. IDE.
With a quality SLC SSD there is not a big difference in boot times. ~8 seconds to boot to Ubuntu 10.10 on the CF-29 and ~10 seconds to boot to the CF-74 with Ubuntu 11.04. (After POST)
I have had more audio and touchscreen issues with the CF-74's. (~40% failure rate, touchscreen, audio, or both) I have had touchscreen issues on some CF-29's (~10% touchscreen failure rate)

The fully rugged units are IP65 rated...
6 = Dust Tight - No ingress of dust whatsoever
5 = Water Jets - Water projected by a nozzle (6.3mm) against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.

For a dusty shop, I would NEVER recommenced a semi-rugged, ONLY a fully rugged. (ESPECIALLY metal fabrication shops that use waterjets)
Are CF-74's good for a shop enviroment?
