After keeping a sharp eye on the Flea for several years, I finally landed a "rare" CF-28 with 512 in the mobo and 512 Buffalo in the slot, for a grand total of 1024 MB ram! HooRay!! Now I just need to add OEM wifi (Cisco), OEM GPS, and the green emissive keyboard to create the Ultimate (© member Toughbook) antique CF-28 ToughBook!
I'm stoked! Have all the parts just need to get a weekend without prior commitments or a big Honey-Do list ....

Try a Ubiquiti SRC WIFI card (802.11a/b/g); gets a great signal (its a 300mw card) and slips right in place of the Cisco card, you just have to plug the factory antenna in on the left hand side of the card, not the right like my Cisco card was hooked up. The guy I bought mine from on EBAY had a few more listed for $27.00 last time I looked.
Tell me: If you use the factory antenna for the WIFI, what are you going to use for the antenna for the GPS? My understanding is if you tune the antenna for one, it won't work well for the other (I may be wrong, won't be the first time). -

Same guy is selling a couple CF-28 1Ghz / 1MB on Ebay right now.... minus a few parts of course.

For how much? So this left-side plastic is for GPS and left-side on screen-edge is for SIM?

No, the 28s never came with any form of digital MODEM; they were strictly analog CDPD. Of course you could plug anything into the PCMCIA slots, but that wasn't built-in and I think they stopped at EDGE on PCMCIA cards. The single USB slot is only Rev 1.0 compliant, and many popular USB MODEMs would just trip the internal current limiting circuit and never boot up. This was why we saw 28s being dumped on the market literally by the boatload circa Feb 2009; that was when the cellular carriers turned off the last of the analog network and you couldn't get service at any price.
We often made use of it as a WiFi antenna by performing the hack outlined in the CF-28 FAQ; it works well on all but the highest powered (600mw & up) Wireless G cards.
