Gonna do my very first internal wifi install on a CF-72. CF-28 and CF-48 will follow. Would like to know which of the following Atheos cards is better?

    1. Atheros AR5004G AR5213A Super G 108 Mbps Mini PCI Card for $15,

    2. Atheros AR2414A AR5005GS Mini PCI 802.11G 108M Card for $10

Antennas for the install are gonna be the following pair -

I had a 5004g till I got my engenious card. It is a good card. Remember you will only see 108mbs speed if you have a super G router. I don't know about the flag antennas inside the case. They will have to be placed in a non-metallic location to get reception.

Klonsdale, What other choices do I have for antenna installation. I was gonna go with those under the palmrest.

If the palm rests are plastic then you will be ok, however I am not familiar with the cf-72 or the cf-48, but with the cf-28 you will need to utilize the panasonic wifi antenna, if you can find one, or use an external wifi antenna. There is a thread devoted to the external antenna mod. Another thought you might be able to trim the flags to fit under the plastic corner protectors on the LCD lid.

I am sure that others will chime in on the cf-72 and the cf-48.

Quite a few places to try
Under the top of the lid plastic bumpers is one idea

I have a mk-5 unit with the factory single antenna with a Atheros replacement for the dated cisco card

One flag antenna under the right hand plastic cover just ahead of the PCMCIA door is adequate for most purposes on the CF-28. I posted some pictures a while back, I'll look for them later.

I will experiment with those flag antennas and also give this one a try, It looks like it might work in narrow spaces like the plastic bumpers.

Update! I have gone ahead and purchased both the Atheros cards and two b/g/n (300m) cards as well. I will try the 72 first and post the results with pics if I am successful in installing a super G or N card with two or three antennas. Anyone come across a mini pci wifi card with bluetooth? That would be awesome!

I've seen those flag antennas a couple of times on eBay (UK/IE) and wondered if they'd do - how big are they and what parts look like they can be cut down? Is the whole of that square-ish section copper?
