    hey all ,

edit ... mistake in title ... the rf is on the WLAN side (802.11n) .

i just acquired one of these for a very low price :
    http://www.skyrockettoys.com/products/sky-viper/sky-viper-950str-video-streaming-drone
not the hottest ticket on the venue but gets me into a drone .
there are a couple of "apps" that can be used to stream to a "smart device" ... which i do not own (650 bucks for a samsung "phone" ... you gotta be kidding !)
i am looking for the software (W7 or 'nix mint13/17) that will work with the wlan .
(i can *see* the drone and connect to it) .
man , if i can get this working it will be a possible help to others .

after doing some recon , i found that "bluestacks" android emulator is recommended over other methods (emulators et al) .
there is an OS available (andyos) but it has much left to be desired (from what i have read) .

another complete stand alone or dual-boot solution is the android project run by intel (yep ... the processor manufacturer) .
i am going to keep an eye on this , get another ssd and try it on my '19 .

for now , i am trying out bluestacks on my '30 ...
if it is all that it is supposed to be , i will put it on the '31 ... at least until/if/when i get a true android os on the '19 .

there is a solution from google ... but it requires the google browser ... aint goin' there ... no how - no way .
there is a way to run a virtual machine within the firefox browser (who knew !?) and get the job done ... now , this i could and would do .

I have an android OS for PC dvd here somewhere. Been a year or 2 since I messed with it.
    Intel---very interesting.

I agree on avoiding the Google browser like avoiding the CIA.
I recall somewhere reading about the Firefox virtual thing. I was not interested so I did not pay any attention to it.

    Something to look into
    http://www.android-x86.org/

    Link to Intel version
    https://01.org/android-IA
This maybe a problem to getting the Intel version running on a Toughbook
Android-IA only supports booting on UEFI mode. To boot the installer, you must turn on UEFI boot through your BIOS menus

i was reading about the intel OS yesterday ... i did not realize that it was for UEFI-EIEIO only .
not exactly a smart move on the part of intel .

the android-x86 project sounds good but a look at the development change log shows *fits-n-starts* .
if there are a couple of bugs , it may be months before they are fixed .

with the popularity of *andriod* amongst the non-technical coffee swilling let's-wear-stocking-hats-in-the-middle-of-the-summer people that can't be bothered to talk to someone six feet away ...
it is only logical that there is going to be a battle of "OSes of the third kind" with development leaning towards small computer devices (think all those arduino type boards that are now available) .
intel has the money (just as does AMD) to push development of an android OS for use on/with their microprocessors and even put out a line of development kits .
as it stands , it may even be possible to embed an android OS in a upc utilizing ssd technology (this would allow OS changes) instead of "hard wiring" the OS during the photolithographic process .
this would be a case of developing a child-product (an OS in this case) in order to sell a much larger parent-project .
if one had only to buy a processor that came with a working OS , had the ability to interface with ram , required minimal components to drive a monitor (the current "i" family of integrated graphics) , on chip sound and a few other items ... they would sell to the experimenters as well as commercial product developers .

i played with bluestacks yesterday ...
it is cpu intensive ... to be honest , it ran like 5417 on the 1.66 GHz procc in the '30 .
i could not get the wireless side to work correctly in order for the "app" (which dl'ed after i used my junk google account to "log in") to see the video from the drone .

methinks i will get another ssd , and try the intel android on one of my UEFI laptops ... or , load linux mint and give it a go .

Fascinating idea. To upgrade the OS, you could just replace the socketed CPU.

Thanks to 1517. The original poster of this

    hi all again.

well I got it running, but it is a little buggy. but it does work if you have patience.

    **********************************************************************************

***************this is a rough guide on how to*********************************

    ***********************************************************************************

Go online and search and read up it does require some steps. There are plenty YouTube and webpages showing how to.

    *****Some links below********

****** I am not a programmer or SDK developer, just a computer guy who wanted to try this*************
*******if you try and does not work I cant really help cause I really don't KNOW, just got lucky thru trail and error :) **********

As time goes by the versions get better and better, Intel has even started a free version of this for Intel processors.

Seem to have better luck with the Asus or eepc or generic desktop versions on toughbooks.

You can run it as a second system on dual boot, but I haven't had luck and when running no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth etc.

You have to understand right now it is mostly "beta" kind of stuff.

If you find a running version, get the one with the Ethernet patch. Here's why: most will not work with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth unless you can do the developers SDK stuff( read programmers)

First of you have to download Oracles Virtual Machine ware to run a VM in your machine, make sure you get the extension pack recommended and install. You will need the

Virtual Box host only Ethernet Adapter or usb driver. oracle has a help page explains it all. I restarted it all several times, while running it and MS windows seemed to recognized it and install the drivers especially for usb mouse on my CF 18. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will not work you will see Ethernet in corner , the VM will access Wi-Fi on tablet thru software

start up the virtual Box, then you see screen, click the blue new button

you will see a screen that has a blank field just give it name, then it will display OS and type, mine said win XP and version just leave at that unless you can handle other OSs like Linux etc.test

next screen is mem, I set mine to 512 MB as my TB only has 1.5 G mem

next is create virtual drive, click create

next pick VDI, first selection on list. ( just how I got it to work)

    next Dynamically allotted, click next

next will show VD drive name you selected and a slider bar says size of VD. set at 10 GB, it will not sue it only that VD might grow to that size, like a page file.

    next click create

underneath the blue button says new you will see your VD named, click green arrow start

now you will get a blank black screen with a white one in front asking where your iso Android 86 file is, (link below to one I used)
like in widows there is a little folder icon thingy, you click and next window is standard window file window select the location and click on
    on iso file and select.

it will now show on outermost window and click start button

you will get blue screen with 4 options ( if using windows, ignore the Linux looking stuff) hit enter and it should get first one
***** the important stuff is use the option that says live cd****

****** important in a virtual box the mouse can be used in the box but it gets locked in and you only get it back when you shut down*****
*****later**** when you get it working you can configure the mouse in setting under usb devices, you will see mouse or MAC address click that, it is
usually the mouse, read the help page at Vb at oracle*************
on my laptop the TS screen works in this box use the pen stylus, the mouse will work but you can barely see in there

Ok now you have to make choice, Livecd (recommended) or install on hard drive( not recommended wouldn't work for me!!).

*****hint use Live cd firsts selection!!!!*******

black screen will turn white the black then some programming language this can take over 5 min, faster on newer tablets
the if it say "android" in large letters you're in !!!!

just follow instructions and set up just like new phone and sign in at Google!!!

******PS ps. when finally set up, go into setting and put sleep mode to never, sometime if android goes to sleep it will lock up ******

*****PS ps. go into settings and uncheck autorotate, mine rotated (surprise!!! :/) and I couldn't get it back and to delete and redo new VM****************

***********specific version I used and worked, may or may not work for you******** might have to delete and redo several times to get to work, good luck*******

the version I used (link below) works, the pen stylus is picky, you know that you selected something cause the button bar will glow blue. you might have to do several times.

if an option says to wait? the wait or it will lock up.

****** important in a virtual box the mouse can be used in the box but it gets locked in and you only get it back when you shut down*****
*****later**** when you get it working you can configure the mouse in setting under usb devices, you will see mouse or MAC address click that, it is
usually the mouse, read the help page at Vb at oracle*************

    weeeelll ...
i didn't go to the head with the above on a laptop ... but i did read through it .
it seems to me that there is a lot left to be desired with this android stuff ... all of the forks/versions of linux were bad enough (you do not want to know how many cds and dvds i have burnt over the last 5 years) .
now android comes along and the permutations that are yet to be written .
i dunno ... it looks like android is where linux was 5 years ago .

i do have an asus laptop ...
maybe i can get the "app" working through a copy of the intel android (to get a handle on things) and then go to mint18.x and run android through it on the '19 or '31 .
or ... i can cede graciously , get a cheapo android device from dealextreme or aliexpress and avoid a lot of hassle .
but where is the fun in that ?

The CF 19 seems to be the perfect device for your video streaming.
Getting to software to co operate is the challenge.

    i dl'ed and ran this :
    http://www.android-x86.org/documents/installhowto
unfortunately , it is not very compatible (read absolutely sucks) with my thinkpad t-400 ... i do not think it will even install properly .
the vesa mode will run but you have to let it boot up ... about 4 minutes ... and there is no activity indicator ... the only reason i knew anything was happening was due to the flashing/not flashing led on my usb drive .
i could not find my asus machine .
    i'll give the '19 a try later on .

to be honest , i do not believe this OS is anywhere near ready for *prime time* .

no fun was had yesterday evening ... i tried that android OS stick on a couple of other laptops i have ... it would not load .
i can't find that asus laptop i have ... it must have gotten stirred into the mix .
i am about ready to build a box (i have all the stuff) and try that OS .

over at DX , they do have some cheap phones :
    http://www.dx.com/s/android+phone?category=526&PriceIntvl=25-215

this still does not afford the solution of using my '31 or '19 ... which is much more preferable than some flimsy smart-phone .
still , if i get one , then i will be hip , slick and cool ... just like those irritating twits in the coffee shops ... on second thought , i aint gotta be slick .

The video streaming seems to be handled by vitamio multimedia framework and uses upnp for discovery and openssl for crypto, according to classes.dex of Sky Viper Video Viewer v1.4.1.

    https://www.vitamio.org/ states:
"Vitamio can play 720p/1080p HD mp4,mkv,m4v,mov,flv,avi,rmvb,rm,ts,tp and many other video formats in Android and iOS.
Almost all popular streaming protocols are supported by Vitamio, including HLS(m3u8), MMS, RTSP, RTMP, and HTTP. "

My first guess would be some standard https video stream.
    Try vlc https://INSERT_DRONE_IP_HERE

    If that does not work:
Could you run sudo bash -lc 'apt-get install nmap && nmap -A INSERT_DRONE_IP_HERE' on your linux box, after connecting to the drones wlan?
Also try this (replace "1 2 3 4" with all ports that nmap reports to be "open")

    for port in 1 2 3 4; do
for proto in http http rtsp mms rtmp hls; do
    vlc $proto://INSERT_DRONE_IP_HERE:$port
    done
    done

the vlc idea was one of the first things i tried ... albeit in a less than intense mode (work is the scourge of the common man) .
i'll give it another shot and see what happens .
it would be great if it worked ... i am not at all convinced of the readiness of andriod for anything other than glorified cellphones .

if at first you do not succeed ... try a different flash drive .

after making a usb installer for mint 18.xx with pendrivelinux , my T-400 would see the usb drive correctly in the "temporary boot device" list but failed to "run" ... i re-did the drive ... same results .
    i tried a different flash drive ... success .
i have used that drive to stash and retrieve files , etc ... no problems whatsoever .
i am going to make a note and put it on my monitor :
    "try another drive"

at least my $8.xx 5 cup coffee maker from wallyworld worked , as promised , right out of the box .
i drink one or two cups of coffee in the morning and that is it for the day ... i do not need a big machine .

i found my asus machine ... it was out in my small shed/shop ... it has been in the mid 30s-low 40s for a couple of days ...
i am letting the machine "dry out" , there was moisture condensing on the lcd , so there is moisture condensing on the inside as well .

i will have a little time to play with vlc this morning before i head to work .
    we'll see what happens .

    uuuggghhh ...
on my way out of work yesterday at 1700 the boss-man caught up with me and asked if i would like to work some overtime .
"sure ... what have i got to do ?"
he oulined the tasks and i finished them , i was washing my hands when my radio went off ... someone spilled a gallon of "redwood brown" paint (i call it 5417-brindle brown) in the entry door area .
technically , i was not on mait job duty and was not required to respond ... after the third call for help ...
i told the radio/page operator to overhead page the only other person in mait that was on shift ... a fairly new gal .
i got to the spill and the new gal was there with a *very excited* look on her face .
"yadda yadda yadda ... paint ... a lot of it ... i've never cleaned up ... etc etc"
"stop the weddin' ... look at the problem in stages ... etc etc"
i told a couple of the admin types to keep the small spatter areas wet while we went to get the "implements of destruction" .
two hours later it was like it never happened ... except for needing a new pair of shoes and pants ... the gal was still excited and slung some paint on me with a squeegee .
    i finished up at 2200 .
    :bigconfused: :mask:

going to try vlc this morning .
i sure hope it goes smoother than last night .

    1)
that sudo stuff looks really odd
especially install: line 2: crap: command not found

    2)
the nmap output is also confusing
could you scan your local router, just to verify nmap is working?

    heh ...
the "crap" command is mine ... a password that i can remember easily between all the sundry temporary/testing installations of OSes i do .
i believe nmap is working ok ... it "found" the connection to/and my drone .
what i find puzzling is that no open ports were found ... hard to talk/listen to anything that is a deaf-mute .
still , the data about what it was connected to came across just fine upon the initial handshaking .
maybe this is where the "app" (aka : program) comes into play ... it says (basically) ; *scan ports and listen for device yyyy , remember this port for this session and keep it open* .
(i base this on the fact that the ports seem to be random with each power-up of the drone)
after all , not many end users are going to be able look for/assign open ports (etc) .
much as why "idiot lights" in cars replaced gauges .

i am thinking that/it is looking like i have to use their app .
it would be asking too much for the company to put out a *linux app* .
still , trying to get a program like vlc to work has benefits .

maybe finding an android OS will have to wind up being the answer .

ok, let's try a diffrent route.
does android-x86.org work for you when using virtualbox or vmware?

May I suggest widening the nmap port scan range?

    Code:
    nmap -A -p 1-65535 <IP>

note: this will take considerably longer time to complete than normal.

ok ... nmap reports that all the ports are closed ...
get this ... the IPA did not change since the last time and the drone had been completely powered down ... 192.168.1.24 .
maybe an initial default setting ?

it is looking like android might be the last hope ... unless there is a 'nix solution .
i read something , somewhere about a vm for nix that was in the repositories .

Virtualbox. As a matter of fact I had downloaded Android x86 last week and wanted to see how it worked with it. Just didn't get around to installing it yet.

    heh ...
that is the story of my life .
between work and the ongoing bathroom remodel (saga) i have not even had time to go burn up some avgas with my friend ... still gotta check/repair #2 generator on the 310 .

there was/is a couple of programs available ; shaslik and archon , that allow one to run android programs on 'nix .
the first one seems to be dead-in-the-water ... i can't find out much about the second one .

This is turning into a very interesting thread.

Ya know, I just had a thought.
Android on the CF 19- with automatic screen rotation functioning. I don't know if any Linux has the auto rotate working on a CF 19.

Rambling thoughts stemming from anxiety on a stroke damaged brain.

one would *think* that seein's how android is spun from 'nix that this would be an easy task ... but , noooooo ...
it is akin to wanting to go out with your gf's hot(ter) sister and get lucky ... and we know how that work(s)(ed) out .
    :mask:

well ... most of the time ;)

trying to run 'droid on the '19 might work .
there has got to be an answer for this problem ... one that allows a decent refresh rate of the video .
this is another concern ... what good would getting this to work be if the video sucked ?
i have seen video running from within emulators and vms ... not exactly top-notch .

I just tried this a few minutes ago on my CF-30: streaming 720p H264 video from a samba shared volume over wifi inside a Windows 7 VM under Virtualbox running in Debian Jessie, with VLC Player. It's actually watchable. 1080p was a bit shaky.

    Butcher! Butcher? harumpf
    I re-engineer...I do not butcher.

On first glance it looks easy.
Grab one of these and use it in the WWAN slot. Plug the accelerator do-hickey into it. Eliminating the physical port and hard wire the 2 cards together would make it more flexible.

side note: I have one of those doohickeys. For aaah, special projects.

    hmmm ...
to each side of the usb connector on the accelerometer board there are (what appear to be) leds ...
this means that holes will have to be drilled in the case in order to observe them .
    :p

is there any room in the case (proper) for these items ?
(hey , this is my thread ... derailment is the norm rather than the exception)

i don't know if i will have any time to work on this project today ...
i was under the weather yesterday , replacement chunks that were delivered for the bathroom project were not correct , i have to order up a control valve body for the furnace and the day is still young .

i remembered why i really did not want to go with archon ... one has to install that damnable google browser .

If you need an led to tell you the laptop is tilted, you may want to step away from the screwdriver.

CF19 space is very limited. The replacement for the WWAN location is about the best or perhaps eliminate the Bluetooth//gps. CF30 or 30 has more options.

i have been snooping around , looking for a solution and trying to figure out what version of what android will run on my '19 ... i found a reference to "zmax" .
i followed the trail and found a line of cellphones ... specifically the "pro" series .
these are dirt cheap and available used (with a cracked digitizer overlay) :
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZTE-Zmax-Z9...832228?hash=item3d205ae2a4:g:gWcAAOSwqfNXj6v3
    the replacement screen :
    www.ebay.com/itm/Black-ZTE-ZMAX-Z970-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Glass-Panel-New-USA-/291554425525?hash=item43e1ff7ab5:g:W6YAAOSw4shX~Na9
    the replacement battery (!) :
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-MOBILE-ME...359352?hash=item4b017a9a78:g:x4YAAOSwtJZXXLnO

a brand new unit goes for about 100 bucks .
if i wanted to get into a smartphone ... for cheap ... this would be the way to go .

still , getting 'droid to run on the '19 would be about the best thing to do in this case and i am still going to try ...
my *new* ssd should be here in about 4 days ... then i will play around with getting it to work .

I have run ReMix OS on a CF-31A. It was not supposed to run on that chipset, but ran better then I thought it would.

I'd like to suggest taking part in a 12-step program, Reverse Engineers Anonymous:
    1) 1:00 install Android x86 inside a VM
    2) 1:00 get root
    3) 0:10 install Android apps: Ubuntu App, Sky Viper Video Viewer
    4) 0:10 Ubuntu App: sudo apt-get install wireshark strace lzma
    5) 0:05 start Sky Viper Video Viewer
    6) 0:05 figure out Sky Viper process id via Ubuntu App: ps auxww | grep -i viper
    7) 0:05 Ubuntu App: sudo strace -f -d -tt -v -s 512 -p SKY_VIPER_PID 2>&1 | tee -a sky_viper.strace.log
    8) 0:05 Ubuntu App: sudo wireshark # and start capture
    9) 0:05 Power on Sky Viper drone and use Sky Viper Video Viewer
    10) 0:05 Save Wireshark capture data as sky_viper.pcapng
    11) 0:05 Ubuntu App: sudo tar cf sky_viper.debug.tar sky_viper_strace.log sky_viper.pcapng && lzma sky_viper.debug.tar
    12) 0:05 Upload sky_viper.debug.tar.lzma and post a link
Total duration: 2:20hrs preperation + 0:40hrs data collection

The strace output should contain all relevant data, including ips, ports, urls and logins to the drone.
The wireshark output will probably not hold the keys to the kingdom (assuming that all network traffic is encrypted), but will help making more sense of the strace output.

Please send me a PM on NBR or TBT when this is done.
I am not following this thread, as the last two pages feel off-topic to me.
