Guys, I sold a CF-50 a few months back and at the time I had everything tested and working fine. The buyer has had a problem (on a couple of occasions) with one of the USB ports not working with a thumbdrive. I got it back once and tried both ports with a thumbdrive and an external HDD, and both worked fine. He is now complaining about having the same problem. Other than just a bad port (contacts or wiring), is there anything else that could stop the port from functioning? He has not said anything about the port not working with any other devices (ie. printer), but he definitely says his thumbdrive will not work. He is not very computer literate, so I am fairly sure he has not fiddled with any of the device settings.

I suggest you make sure it's NOT him having repeated problems with the SAME thumbdrive... it may be faulty, or it may be a "Data-Safe" drive, or it may have "Easy Back-up" software installed on a small partition on the drive. Any of these can cause a variety of issues; I have a couple of Kingston 8GB drives with the Easy-Backup thing that Win7 & XP will ALWAYS ask if I want to "repair". I let it do it ONCE... it destroyed my data & I had to reformat... and then, it STILL kept asking the same question.

Make sure he tries another drive in the same port, and make sure he tries the suspect thumbdrive in a different port, and even on a different computer.
