I turned my newly purchased refurbished CF-29 off last night with 88% of the yellow tabbed battery remaining - turned it on this morning and it was down to 10% This was not what I expected! Would calibrating the battery fix this or do I need to shell out for a new one? The toughbook is under a month old so I figured it was calibrated when it underwent refurbished.

Its possible that the battery has some bum cells, this is typically represented as battery life displayed that suddenly drops to a much lower time, or possibly the battery has not been charged in a while and needs to be cycled through a few times. I would start with charge/discharge a few times and then try the battery recal, if this does not improve the performance you probably need a new battery. If youre looking for some brand new yellow tabs PM me.

First of all... Welcome to the forum! Second of all.... Not ALL sellers truly refurbish their Toughbooks.. As a matter of fact... I'd wager less than 10% actually do. Some think of refurbishment as only loading the OS so you have a somewhat working laptop.... Other muff everything up so bad that they leave the buyer to sort it out! (Yes... We get A LOT of those type questions around here)

You can try a recalibration... Most sellers don't even know about that feature when they sell their 'refurbished" unit. So.... YOU will be refurbishing this one... And maybe modifying it to suit your needs/tastes in the future.

Please keep us posted as to what you need.

Agreed there are very few ebay sellers who take the time to test everything, clean everything, ensure everything is working order and replace repar parts that are not. Most of us on here take the time to focus on that detail while other resellers try to move things as quickly as possible and don't "refurb" anything they sell. All in all though you made a great choice getting a 29 and I think you will be happy the more that you learn. As Toughbook said let us know how we can help!

without wanting to sound like im teaching you to suck eggs, but are you sure you turned it off and not just suspended the machine???

have you charged the battery and seen how long the thing runs for under normal use?

finally, the laptop may have been 'refurbed' but as the battery is a consumable, unless you have been told explicitly the battery has been looked at, has x% wear or will hold x minutes runtime, then odds are the battery is excluded from the refurbishment and is just supplied on the uderstanding that it will hold 'some charge'
