The battery is new, original. It lasts 4 hours without problem in normal use.

The problem is that for about a week it completely dies from full charge to 0% (can't power the laptop at all) when the laptop is shut down (it is NOT on standby). I guess some device is "eating power". The laptop is slightly upgraded - it's with 3GB RAM (stock 1GB) and it is with SSD hard drive (stock HDD).

The exact stock model is CF-52AJCBDBM

Well that sounds like a little to much . I just checked my 52MK4 and it's been off for a week and it shows 82% charged. Sounds like your battery is starting to fail . I don't really see anything in your 52 that would drain it that fast.

My guess you got it on eBay. If so no telling how long it has been sitting on a shelf some where. It might of been new but has been sitting on a shelf for 5 years or so. With that said myself I have never had a problem with that type of battery

The guess is perfect. Here I can't buy anything Toughbook related without eBay. There are no stores.

Try going to bios and disabling wwan, wlan gps, fingerprint reader, all extra ports, dial up modem, etc. Remove any pcmcia or express cards. Then let it set and see what happens. If it's ok, then you have a power drain from one of the devices you disabled. My cf30 drains the battery, but it has factory gps which is always ON. I am not sure of the power characteristics of gps on the wwan board. But if it's disabled in bios, it should be off.

You can also pull the fully charged battery and let it set on the shelf for a few days. Then put it in a laptop and see how much power it has left. It may not be at 100% but it should be above 95%

You may be able to buy stuff in the buy sell trade forum..MUCH better odds than fleabay. Matter o fact, I have an extra battery that works in a cf52.

You know what... it's maybe the Express Card (USB 3 & eSata ports)... I just unplugged it and it was literally "HOT"

I know a lot of the 28 and 29 series toughbooks had problems with some the PCMCIA slot USB 2.0 cards with them shorting out over time. Think most of them were the cheap Chinese ones.

Most of those people who are using this AKA PCMIA card( Bluetooth, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and etc.) haven't yet learn a lesson only when time their unit turn into paperweight. As I told before, don't leave it stock in their And If you haven't any choice but to use those thing just slide it in only when needed and then pull it out when its done. But still I didn't trust this thing but If money is no problem to you. I have no more further comment.
