In this listing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Panasonic-T...6-/361121943448?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123
...discountedlaptopparts is selling what it describes as a Panasonic CF-30 Hard Drive Caddy "DFMD2176 has been graded A. This item is 100% tested, functional" Since all the guts are missing, it isn't that part number, actually is little more that scrap metal, could never be tested and is not functional for anything.
I assumed they simply left the connectors, padding, heating element, etc. out of the pic and sent them a polite message so they could correct their listing to avoid problems with buyers.
"If the pic with your listing shows all that you are including, the item is an incomplete shell and functionally useless. Not shown is the connector running between the hard drive that is mounted in the caddy and the outside of the case that plugs into the computer as well as the heating and insulating warp that surrounds the hard drive. Thought you'd want to know and correct the listing."
Here's what I got back today...
"... we break all of our parts down to the smallest components without damaging them, and all of our parts are sold exactly as pictured. If needed, additional parts may be found by browsing our store."
I responded:
No.
Your listing says it is a Panasonic part # DFMD2176. It is not. This part includes the required internal connectors. This is simply scrap tin.
You say it is 100% tested and functional. It isn't functional without its guts and can't possibly be "tested". There are many chips on a mother board that can be easily removed but would render the mother board useless. When you sell a motherboard do you also remove these component parts and sell them separately?
Most caddy's are sold as just that - a carrier for the hard drive but without the hard drive included in the sale. All of them emphasize in their listing that the hard drive isn't included. At a minimum, you should emphasize in your listing the absence of the guts of your caddy and include that fact in your listings title.
I was assuming you just left out one of the included parts in your pic. Now I know it was something worse."
In fairness, they have a very large feedback number that, for that size number, is very positive. But my "trustworthiness antennas" have just been activated for this seller. Maybe they should change their name to "HIllaryslaptopparts"![]()

I have purchased many parts from them...I have been pleased. I have learned to read the ad carefully and I know they sell individual parts. They sell exactly what is pictured.

I buy a lot from them and I'm guilty of not reading the fine print at times...thus why I have a new but useless keyboard here. Why would you sell a keyboard minus frame? It's not like you can add the frame later.

I think what it comes down to is that the seller said it is a DFMD2176 and we all know it is not. The seller should remove / update his listing and not use that part number. Easy way to fix this is to "report the seller" to ebay. I think the link is at the bottom of the page or it was at one time...

Aha...
I just looked at a CF30 HDD Caddy...
DFMD2176..is the number stamped on the metal lid
DFMD2175..is the number stamped on the metal bottom half
DFHR6264..is the number stamped on the black plastic part.
DFMD2176 is not the number for the whole caddy..We assume it is because it's printed on top... -

...also doesn't address the clearly bogus "100% functional and tested" claim they repeat a number of times in the listing.
Perhaps they could take a lesson from the vast majority of those who sell caddy's on eBay and who clearly state whether they include the hard drive or not. All I was suggesting in my first email to them was that they clarify the incomplete nature of their listing. Their ridiculous response was what got me concerned about what surprises might be hidden in their other listings. (However, it looks like they have sold a bunch of them so either their is a huge market for replacement caddy shells -- or some unhappy customers.) -
i have bought a couple of items from them and have been pleased with them to date .
methinks that they could represent the caddy more clearly .
in this case "tested , 100 % functional , grade "A") would indeed apply to the part that was shown ... if it aint beat to death .
the guy that does the ad layup simply did not know about the panasonic numbering system and surmised that it was complete .
this is not the first time i have heard of this ...
i had to ask a seller about a LCD and if it included the frame/lid as it was pictured ...
the listed number was the LCD number and they showed a picture of a whole lid .
they responded with "whoops ..." and the next day the ad was corrected . -

And you will not see them change it and you ask why ? Because they have been selling them like this for some time now. They did have some CF-19 caddies just like the 30's and they sold them all. If people will buy them then they will keep putting them up.
-
But on the plus side..I scored 2 HDD cables for $8 each from them....Someone had given me a caddy without the cable...I may still have the extra cable here...
-
I agree with both of you - and since it sounds like you are well aware of their "peculiar" item descriptions, there probably isn't any reason to keep this thread alive any longer. Happy bidding!

"... and then she hit me with my CF-30"
there , on topic and reference frame . -
I have had 2 problems with them recently. First I ordered a CF-M34 hard drive cable, but they sent me a display cable. When I told them about their mistake, they insisted I send them a picture of the packing slip before they would do anything. I don't have time to take pictures for them to solve their mistake. Even after filing an eBay claim they refused to provide a refund. Too much hassle over a $6 part so I dropped it. Last week I got a display lid for a C1. Picture showed it had 4 antennas installed, which would save me time and allow re-using the old ones. But it came without any antennas. Same crap about send them a pic of the packing slip. This is a $20 part so I may get eBay on the phone to complain - they should not be allowed to invent their own refund hassle process. Unless I need something badly, I'm done with these guys.
PS. Their office is about 3 miles from my house. Went there but no one would answer the door. Maybe I'll just throw a brick through their window to get my $20 worth of satisfaction . . .toughasnails likes this. -
I did eBay for a living until recently, believe me I know this drill.Shawn likes this. -
I am more than willing to send a seller all the photos they want.
Photos are free..Return shipping and packing costs much more time and money..
The rules say the seller needs the part returned. I have checked. If a simple photo or 2 satisfies the seller so I can get a refund, I'm all in.
Just did this 3 weeks ago.. A different seller sent me a Lenovo wifi card instead of a Dell. They initially wanted me to return the $4 part. I sent photos and politely told them it was not worth it to send it back. I ask for a proper replacement part..They did not have a replacement so they caved and sent me a refund. -
i have had similar experiences with other sellers ...
one was a 120VAC to 9VAC 2A wall wart ... the picture on ebay showed the data plate as correct for what i needed .
what i received had a data plate that showed 120VAC to 9 VDC .
this was not usable and it was "not as described" .
it was a 5 dollar item the shipping was 2.50 ... i posted a response that mentioned my findings/stance and requested a refund plus postage to my paypal account .
they gave me the runaround , saying that the picture was correct but the label was wrong and i could use the part .
it replied that upon finding they had sent the erroneously marked part and time was of the essence , i immediately found a similar device from another seller , so i did not need the part .
they responded with refusing to pay the shipping costs .
thank you mr. duck ... i again requested a refund based on my findings plus recompense for my time by being a victim of fraudulent representation and the illegal sale of a knowingly mis-marked part .
they wanted the part back at my cost and they would refund the cost of the item .
at this point i turned the ebay dogs loose on them .
after being called by ebay to give an oral explanation , the case was found in my favor .
the 5 bucks plus 2.50 shipping costs appeared in my ebay balance and i shipped the part back .
a few days later i received an email asking to rate them .
wanna guess what i did ?
the point/theory being is that many of these sellers hedge the bet by the knowledge that most customers (in the USA at any rate) will just drop the matter .
i figure that it is the principal and a matter of honor ...
and i am allowing someone the dignity of being responsible for their own actions .
to keep this on topic ...
i would never buy an AC adapter for a CF30 from them .

After complaining that 20% off did not make up for the missing antennas, seller's "Client Account Executive" refunded the full amount ($19.xx with tax) and said to keep the part. I had my eye on a Grade A lid that showed antennas, also from them, so I bought that one. It showed up in great shape with the antennas, and $3 cheaper.
So now I'm a happy camper. Agree with OP tho, be aware that Discounted Laptop Parts strips stuff down to the piece-part; don't expect a HD caddy to come with the cable.
Anyone need a C1 display lid in Grade B condition with no antennas?
Be very careful with "discountedlaptoparts" on ebay
