My work in progress is a CF-28. It has the touchscreen and it works great, I just don't see a practical use for it given the current software I have installed.

So what are some of the more polular or useful applications that take advantage of the touchscreen feature?

you don't see a practical use? I use it more than the stupid touchpad.
It's handy. The only thing is, when I switch to other computers, it really screws me up because I try to use the screen! LOL

great for general use in a vehicle for sure.

Well you haven't owned a Toughbook very long if you think that. I would be lost if my touchscreen didn't work  .

JollyRoger... You are correct when you say that for most applications, the touchscreen appears to be of no benefit. Especially with the MS drop down windows. But if you play around with it and use it... You'll find it comes in very handy... Especially if you install GPS and GPS software with trip mapping features.

I agree about the GPS software... i use streets and trips and it seems to be basically designed to be used with a touch screen.

I also have Ubuntu installed on my cf-18 and most applications can be used easily with the touch screens... Even the games look like they were made to be used with a touch screen... And all without using the stylus.

Make your scroll bar large (mine is sized 40 from the stock sized 17), so you can use your fat finger to scroll up and down through web pages ;)

Which GPS software do you recommend for general use? Any freeware out there that does a decent job?

That would never work for me because where I go (Like in the UP for example) there is NO cell reception on ANY carrier whatsoever! I have my Sprint card, but having teh maps loaded on the hard drive = win!

I hear you, i usually load my maps ahead of time by just going to the location i will be which caches the maps but sometimes, im missing maps and im in a no cell reception zone...
Anyone know of something similar to streets and trips for Linux?

I never said that, I think the original poster did. I said I like and use the touchscreen everyday, more than the touchPAD and it's great for nav aps, and just generally.

    :)
