Hi; I am putting a Ubiquiti SR2 in a CF-28, I got these cards for a song, I have already changed the MMCX connector to 90 degrees and have a Ubiquiti 4dBi antenna for the MMCX connector but I need to know the best antenna I should use for the main u.fl connection, I have a pile of WiFi antennas from other model laptops, some that are all metal antennas, some that are just the printed circuit board and some out of gobooks that are a combo of metal and circuit board. HELP  ....................Thanks

The best is the panasonic wifi antenna, but the others will probably work well only if the AP is at your back due to the magnesieum lid. Others have reported success with cutting down a flag antenna and placing it behind one of the rubber corner bumpers.

If you look in The Ultimate Toughbook Resource Thread (The one labeled READ BEFORE POSTING right at the top of this forum), you'll find the link to this thread:

My notes on modding the factory CF-28 CDPD WWAN antena for use as a WiFi antenna.

Alternately, if you're not too handy with a soldering iron you can drop Forum Member Springfield a PM; he has a number of OEM WiFi kits for these which include an OEM WiFi antenna which is a bolt-on replacement for the CDPD antenna which is most likely installed on your Toughbook.(If there is one at all)

Either of these antennas will work very well in the 2.4 GHzWireless B/G frequency range; I have not had a chance to test them with Wireless N, though they both do seem to perform well with Wireless A, which is the same 5GHz frequency range as Wireless N.

I suggest some testing on your part; try them and tell us what you find!

If you can find a pull-up RIM antenna... They make great modded wifi antennas after doing mnementh's mods...
