I realize it's been asked and discussed before: but availability, technology, and everything else change. I know DDR ram is getting harder to find, and more expensive when you do find it.

I want to put 1gb into my cf29 mk1 (ddr 2700). What is the best ram available for it.
Is there a real difference between "value" ram and....not value ram? what is it?

I personally ALWAYS use Kingston... It has been better than anything else I've experience as far as reliability and compatibility.

    Thanks

WEll, both are good answers. I try to use kingston and crucial if I can afford it, and if I have to pny or adata (for when I'm broke).

This is going to sound noobish....but the stick of 512 I have in my tb now is kingston, and the chips are like mirrors (duhhhhhh....pretty color, shiney :D). I know it's (was) the best kingston makes, but it's only 512mb, and I"m afraid of getting a bigger stick of lower quality and not getting the performance increase. Did that make sense?

Kingston doesn't have the mk1/ddr listed in their compatabiity wizard drop down boxes.

Kingston is good, too; you cannot go wrong with that selection.

However; you will have to get it from a vendor (like Staples or Newegg), as Kingston has discontinued their 200-pin DDR SODIMMs.

I dont think there is any difference between generic and name brand. I have NEVER had any issue. You can score 1gb PC-2700 sodimm for ~ $10 on Ebay.

    Then you obviously haven't tried adding a 2GB DDR2 SODIMM to a 256MB Base Ram CF-29 Mk4 or Mk5; have you? ;) :D

    Whoa!
What a difference! OR what a placebo effect!
I dunno. But the new stick of ram is working quite nicely. I'll flog it with memtest tomorrow....

FOr now, what is this? It's the stick of Kingston 512mb that I replaced. Pretty mirrors...shiny.
Which is why I assumed it was a high performance chip.
