Yeah, i know that this question has been asked lots of time. But i ask it anyway.

I want to update the videodriver for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 MK3.

Seems my CF-29 has an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 / Intel 855GME videocard.

I now use this version: 6.14.10.3732

I also downloaded some newer versions, but i dont want to kill my CF-29 or to let my Windows XP-sp3 bomb.

These are the drivers i also downloaded but not have installed (yet)

6.14.10.3943 (thats the one from the Lenovo site for the 855GME card)
6.14.10.4497 (this one i found on the Intel site for the 855GME card).

Any experience with these two drivers ? Are they any good, or simply not made for the CF-29 ?

My setup is : Panasonic CF-29 Mk3, 1 gig of memory, Windows XP Professional 2002 with service pack 3.

So any hints and tips ?

The reason that i want to update the video-driver, is that some games keep complaining that my cf-29 has only 8 MB of video-memory, but the panasonic website tells that the CF-29 GME855GME has UMA up to 64 MB ?

I also cant find any option to set the amount of shared video memory. Not in the BIOS nor in the current video-driver (6.14.10.3732)

Oh, and i bought a CF-29 this week. My 1st one, and i love it.

I would go with the one from the intel site but I don't think it's going to change much or give you more what you are looking for.

I agree with Blair. I would use the latest from the Intel site. Drivers may solve that issue. It's hard to tell until you try.
I am a firm believer in updating to the latest drivers for hardware. The official Panasonic drivers are proven but usually very dated at this point.
You may want to verify what bios version you have. Maybe there is an update for it.

Do a system restore point before the driver update. That gives you a way out if the driver crashes.(I doubt that it will)

Maybe even find a freeware system backup program and make an image of your current working system. You could use cd's dvd's or even a usb flash drive.

I will do, thanks for the hints.

I installed the latest Intel driver 6.14.10.4497, and it makes a difrence.

The menu-options window for the Intel 855GME card is much nicer done. Also, when playing games like Age of Empires 3, i dont get the error that the card only has 8 mb. AOE 3 now tells that the card has 64MB.

So, yep it works. I dont know if the driver works good with the other hardware of the CF-29, but anyhow, it works.
