    Does anyone know of a factory-black cf-29? I am looking at a CF-29 that has a black lid and handle; appears to be factory. The only thing that I am able to find is the "Blackhawk" but that has what appears to be a rubber bumper on the lid and is aftermarket (I think).
    Thanks

    There was a factory built cf-28 that was black, but I don't recall reading or hearing about a black cf-29.

    WHAT? No... Only the 27's were black.

    There is NO SUCH THING AS A FACTORY CF-29! This clown probably painted it!

    As discussed a million times, we would stay away from this, ESPECIALLY if used in outside in the SUN because of the heat issues!

    Thanks

    Is it possible that it was a "military-spec" unit? My interest in this one is that I know a "clown" did not own it and the source does not do any of their own mods. I am trying to get the full model # but may not be able to. Curious.............

    I was hoping that you would chime in TopCop as I knew there was someone in the group who could tell me the config with the model #. I'm trying to get the guy to get me the full model # (I'm dealing with him on the phone) and he has yet to get back to me with it. I'll post it as soon as/if I get it.
    Thanks

    That is precisely why I have not just gone out and bought this machine; I wanted the input of the many in this group who have "been there-done that".
    Thanks

    I downloaded and zoomed in on the pic... it looks like the "Panasonic" and the "Toughbook" emblems are gone so I'd guess a backyard paint job; not that I have anything against backyard painting (hides his purple and yellow lid).

    I could be wrong but IMHO it is a after market paint job.

    Why I say this is that the bezel or face of the lid is still silver. I would think that if it was done in the factory for some sort of spec ops it would be all black.

    Again just my 2 cents.

    BTW I see nothing wrong with the back yard paintingI have done a purple one and a lime green one and my girls thought they where cool, and make them look new again. I also did a camo dip for my nephew and he thought it was the bomb. Might do a pink camo dip of a cf-30 for one of my other daughters too.

    I am guessing it's a SBC. The seller took the logo off and tried to cover up the beating it took :) with the black paint. Frank , did the seller say it had a touch screen?

    It's not an SBC Mk3 CF-29: it does not have the WWAN antenna of the SBC units.

    You guys wrong! There is a factory CF-29 black Lid color even CF-30. As a matter of fact I handed two of those a year ago. Its one of a federal issue unit. Here is the actual photo of the unit. One on the right is the CF-30. Finished on matt black paint. Its durable like the silver coat.

    Cool find ohlip, still would have thought they would have painted the screen face black as well, seems half assed when its coming from the manufacturer.

    Thanks Ohlip. I may have to look into this a little more. I am pretty sure that the laptop that I am looking at is from the federal government. Maybe it is a "stealth" model?? :)

    Well it would have been stealthy for sure, but kind of hard to read...

    Hello. In addition to Ohlip's CF-29 and CF-30 in factory black, Panasonic also made CF-28 in black. I happend to have one. It's MK III, 1GHz processor. Full
    model number is: CF-28S3JGZDM. It has matt black lid and black handle, but the screen frame is silver, just like the one on Ohlip's CF-29. I did change screen on this machine to a touch one, and keyboard to an emmisive one.
    This machine has 256 MB of RAM on board, I'm looking for 512 MB chip for it.
    So, not only CF-27's were black. Regards, Voytek.

    Yup... I too have had several factory black CF-28s and CF-29s. They are a rare bird though. Personally... If I was going to be using it outside at all... I'd steer clear of it and go with regular silver finish. The black color is just a heat magnet... Not your Toughbooks friend!

    CF-29ETPGZKM-K

    E = Mk 2 Pentium Mobile 718 1.3Ghz
    T = 13.3" XGA Touch Screen
    P = 60GB HD & 512MB RAM
    G = 3½" Floppy Disk Drive, 10/100 Ethernet
    Z = No Integrated Options (GPS, WWAN, etc.)
    K = Windows XP Professional
    M = North America distribution
    -K = Black???

    How does that compare to what you have?

    I don't have it yet. I was doing my research before buying as it seemed unique enough to pique my interest; I was hoping that the "X" meant something a bit more "steathly" than flat black paint. :(
    I appreciate the help of everyone. If nothing else, this thread generated some interesting discussion (as this forum always does ;) ).

    Blair, if you ask my wife, she will tell you there is always some kind of bug biting me; either a computer bug or a motorcycle bug or a canoe bug..... you get the idea.
    :rolleyes:
