I've been talking with ToughBook recently about some of the stupid crap I've seen on eBay; like one gold-plated sphincter crumb who tried to second-chance sell me a CF-28 that TB beat me out on "discount & off Ebay"... I mean, you can tell at a glance by the way it's written its doubtless from our "banking friends" in Nigeria. :confused2:

But here's the kicker... I just got an eMail from another such F$%#tard offering to sell me THE ONE I JUST WON on eBay! :mask:

I mean, come on... what kind of idiot tries to sell you something you just bought?

I've gotten plenty of fake "second chance" offers on stuff I've won before. Usually ends up with me replying about doing something to my drunken Irish nickname for Richard.

eBay is a great tool to get some good things cheap, but it's a great tool for scammers too, especially when many of the people using eBay aren't very bright.

ebay has done a fine job of marketing their services to the unsophisticated masses. It seems like they want EVERYONE'S money, not just people of at least average intellect. Looks like their ad campaign worked, plenty of idiots there now.

What is it with Nigeria and toughbook? Every toughbook Ive resold has had Nigerian scammers all over it; the Dells, the IBM Think...not one scammer.

That's what I add 3-4 items on the end of my auctions... They all end with "Just move along..." mnem sent me a copy of the email... I emailed the guy and told him to go %&%$#@&( off. What a whack job!

I don't get any second chance offers... What I get are the new breed. They wait until you list something and then they email you and tell you that they will buy your item as long it is exactly like auction # 12345678 and they provide a link. It looks legit but takes you to a site somewhere overseas. I guess you deserve it if you don't check your IP adresses. I check EVERY one of mine.

You DO know that you should be emailing these fakes to [email protected] and when applicable... [email protected]

    Just my too scents...

One of the retards offering up his quality second chance services was from the US... If only he wasn't way down in San Diego, I woulda peed on his front door.

He actually hosted this fake eBay on his server, and had a registered domain under his name with his home address, and a legit phone number for himself.

However, my brother's truck only gets 8MPH on the highway, so we aren't visiting this guy when I fly out to Los Angeles this month.

Hey everyone... seems I'm not the only one to feel the scammers' lurvvve...

Anyhow, I've been away for a bit with the stomach flu; it's kindof hard to care about anything when your body is purging itself from every available orifice for a day and a half. *Stomach grumbles* hush now, or you'll wake the baby...

Yes, and now the delightful part...I get back to my eMail, and find 4 MORE such second chance offers awaiting me...

I agree TB, we SHOULD be forwarding these to eBay & paypal... in fact, I did with the last two... but REALLY... I DO HAVE A LIFE, and all eBay ever does is send me back THE SAME TWO FORM letters worded in that reassuring tone you use when speaking to an idiot child, giving me MORE CRAP to clear out of my inbox.

It would be nice if they would at least note your eMail address & not send them out after you've received that same form letter a few times, or let you put a DONOTREPLY statement in the eMail to stop it from coming; I feel like I'm being PUNISHED for doing the right thing.

Speaking of scammers, one of my co-workers got all excited about buying a Wii for USD $99 new... I told him it's too good to be true. He's gone, but it was a guy in Fayetteville, Arkansas hosting the page on his home Earthlink connection. It was only a ripoff, lots of talk about it, though.

I hate when people say "I was hacked". You meant to say "I'm stupid, I gave my password away".

Either way, Linux considers my password very good, it's easy for me to remember, and even with the numbers I can still type it in less than a second, so I don't worry too much about that stuff.

There are many technical reasons why a system could be compromised, with no passwords involved. As far as passwords go, this can be scary stuff. Ten years of computation has already been done. If someone can grab our /etc/passwd it can break in a few minutes. Shadowed passwords are used by most recent distros, which helps a lot.

Or he could have gotten hacked the good old-fashioned internet way; some turd found enough info on the internet to impersonate the user & "hack the wetware" at his ISP; it's not really that hard; I've worked helldesk & many of my coworkers were not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Ah yes... good ol' Simon. They still host him on The Register, but why don't we all go hit Amazon.com this year and buy one of his books? It only seems fair, give a little bit BACK to the man who has given us so many laughs...

Oh, who am I KIDDING? You KNOW Simon was always a Take the money now, ask questions later kinda guy... and that's precisely how he would want you to give. To him. In cash.

And let us not forget our other stress-relieving friends who've given so much...

Anyone else got any old friends who helped them through the last year we shouldn't forget?
