If I remember correctly, the internal Bluetooth card in a CF-30 Mk3 is version 2.0.
Toshiba and others make a USB Bluetooth dongle that is version 4.0 and is small enough to fit in one of the USB ports behind the rear docking bay door of the CF-30 -- and let the door close. I can see an advantage to having Bluetooth ver 4.0 over ver 2.0 but is there any advantage I am missing to the internal Bluetooth card over the external USB one (other than of course losing one USB port)?

internal BT has "large" dedicated antenna. USB.. BT must have tiny antenna, which will be obstructed by solid metal door.
I think even though USB BT is 4.0 performance will suck.. -
small antenna and obstructions ... an old amateur radio adage applies :
"if ya can't hear 'em , ya can't work 'em" . -
Upgrade your internal Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi+BT. Best choice

Well first question is "What Bluetooth device are you using"
Second question is "What is the advantage of BT 4.0?"
The voltage of the original BT is 3v..
If it was me, I would open up the module I linked below, hardwire it internally and connect it to the factory antenna.

This is a maybe, I would need more wiring info.

This is a 3.0 board that may work..It takes 3v, which is a plus

I'm going to try this card
Azurewave AW-CE123H / 802.11ac/n/b/g + Bluetooth 4.0 / Half-Size PCI-Express MiniCard
You can start with it
I think CF-30 Wi-Fi card is full-size, so you will need half to full size adapter bracket. They are cheap and available. -
This is my comparison between bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0.
I mainly use bluetooth for streaming audio to a set of headphones.
I stream from my phone, so your mileage may vary.
My headphones are 4.0 compatible and my old phone (galaxy s3) was 3.0.
Upgraded to a galaxy s5 last week and it is 4.0.
There is a big difference in the fidelity. More highs and lows.
Bluetooth internal 2.0 or external 4.0?
