Ok this is strange but I want to ask anyway.

I changed my wireless card and i think the boot screen changed but i am not positive it may have been like this prior i just didn't notice.

OK well when you start up the cf-29 it has a blue screen with panasonic written across it in the lower right corner it has a logo from Intel.

Now when i first got the cf-29 i can swear i saw that logo say Intel inside and have the centrino logo like the sticker on the laptop.

Now i notice that it says Intel inside and says Pentium m in writing and has no centrino logo.

maybe I am crazy but what in the world would make this change?

I did not load a new bios onto it and i did not change any settings in the bios.

what do you guys think? does your have the centrino logo?

Centrino is a combination of intel chipset, cpu and intel wireless card. Take out the wireless card and its no longer a centrino

What brand is the wireless card you put in?

    Engenius 600mw card.

Thanks for the info I had no idea you had to have all three to make it centrino

The wireless card you removed was a intel 2100b.
That is the only card that was available from factory for your mk-1 cf-29.
It is the only card that shows centrino when booting.
Now your boot will say pentium M.

Ya the 2100b was too old need a g card.

Thanks for the info I didn't think changing the wireless card would change the boot screen but i guess i was wrong.

Ok James, so you've 'downgraded' a Centrino to Pentium M. Would you undo the G for the B card? [I don't think so]

I'm curious though; is there a performance hit or just a different splash logo?

I was reading about it and i guess the centrino thing is just to save power. It shut component's off or puts them into stand by to save power and give you more battery life.

I don't think it will loose any performance but i hope it does not change my power saving feature. The CPU still throttles back so i would guess it is the same just the wireless card will not save as much power i dunno.

I got a new battery today as well so I will not even be able to see if there is a difference.

    Don’t worry.
    Hardly any difference at all.
Centrino is a marketing thing that intel did a few years ago.
They wanted an approved hardware combination.
You only changed your wifi card.
But your hi-power card will draw a bit more power than the intel.

Can't speak on your issue zipply, but flipfire is MOST DEF right on this... all centrino means is that it is an intel chipset/wifi/LAN if either of those 3 aren't the case then it is simply a pentium m... Intel want's their hand on EVERYTHING and they will be stupid about it if all their products wern't in those laptops... I used to get 2 different types of IBM T41's. Those with and those WITHOUT wifi cards... all had the SAME components except the ones without the wifi cards had a "Pentium M" sticker instead of the "Centrino" sticker!
