    Here's the deal.

Snarfed a 1 GHz off FleaBay, but I was a little wary due to the low feedback total of seller. Still, I took a chance 'cause of processor envy

Well as I was afraid, the 60 Gig HD turned out to be a 30 [I can live with that].

He stiffed me on the Floppy drive [maybe I can get that from him later-dunno], but if anybody has one for sale, PM me.

Finally got past the bios password and the XP password....

Fires up OK, but he has got a load of BS stuff on it, probably do a complete re-install. Screen looks good...

It is not touchscreen, but is the 13". Has the RIM whatever and antenna.

I am looking for a rear cover, PCMCIA cover, and the little cover underneath that is shaped like a wierd rectangle [screws too], the little rubber rear feet and power adapter.

I may cannabalize some stuff off a beauty 600 MHz that I bought a couple of weeks ago...

    Thanks fer lookin'

I just got a few rubnber feet in today... Along with some antenna plugs. (Someone was asking me about those... I don't remember who.) I'd give em' to ya for free but the rears cost about $6 each. The front (bottoms) are $1.60 and the LCD bumpers at .90 cents each.

Let me know what you need. I take PayPal. Like I said... I'd give them to you free but all the free stuff I've been sending out adds up... Especially the shipping. PM Me exactly what you need with regard to those....

I don't really think he will have any more Toughbook stuff. Just started with Ebay in Dec. 07.

He misrepresented all but the Ram and the processor speed. Not a word about the missing covers etc.

Thing is, I have threatened him with filing a claim, but shipping was so overpriced, if I had to send it back to him, , would be the loser.

I prob. should have known better, but you guys have given me such a case of GHz envy that I coudn't resist :D

I'd still complain about it. It may not just be the toughbooks he's doing that on.

As long as we're on the subject, let me make mention of ebay seller " isoldit.in020". I would put them on the "be VERY cautious" list. consider this listing:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320213908280

I was REAL close to bidding on this. The item specifics gives a hard drive size (so it must have a HD/caddy) and CD-ROM as the primary drive. Can't miss with this one. BUT.. then you go into the description and find that the seller is so vague and non-committal that they'd make most politicians jealous. "Each laptop typically features:"?!?! So does it have the stuff or not? and no mention of the hard drive in the description?

I asked the seller if they could tell me what exactly is being bid on, and they said "We cannot guarantee anything about the laptops, as we have not been able to power them on. Please review the pictures in the auction for more details." Ummm... no thanks, let someone else get disappointed with this one.

Thing is about those "Isoldit" places is that they are just a drop off for Ebay stuff. Unless they have someone on staff that is computer savvy, you just don't really know.

I think that is one thing about my guy, he may have just been "computer challenged". I will wait and see for a couple more days...

Yeah... I saw those and almost bid. On some of these, as the Inspector pointed out, you just have to realize that not everyone is PC savvy. I have bid on things like this only to discover that they had a gold mine and didn't know it. When I bid on things like this... I bid accordingly. I have won some where they said, "Won't boot to BIOS" only to discover nothing wrong when they arrived. Others are good only for parts.

What really grinds me is when a seller that KNOWS what they are selling misrepresents it to make a few extra bucks.

Yeah, the most common lie told on eBay is "untested"; more often than not, this means "I tried it out and it's junk, but I'm not gonna tell you that so maybe you'll bid a dollar more on my POS". :mask:

I got my first 1ghz Cf-28 off of ebay as well. Mis-represented to say the least.

I had to keep calling the guy and threaten to report him and even fly down to exchange the machine or get a full refund in person. I got another machine in the mail 3 days later...all was right except touchscreen and wifi. After looking at how much port covers were going to cost and my time screwing around with the virus and spyware infested hard drive and bogus OS...return shipping charges for the bad unit were worth it.

If he does not make things right...If nothing else make some noise about it.

A quick EBay tip. When I am bidding on something like this I request the SELLERS CONTACT information and I call them on the phone. If they do not have a valid phone number listed in the contact information, I will retract my bid. If your a legitimate seller you shouldn't have anything to hide....

If they have an eBay Store, I'd agree with that, as it's obvious they're running a business. However as a casual eBay seller, I would NEVER post ANY real phone # or address in the open areas of eBay; it's a major security risk. :mask: If someone BUYS my item, yes I'll let them call me.

But before a sale? No way. That's just ASKING every "Nigerian Prince with 13 wives and a massive inheritance" to call you at 2AM every night... :twitcy:

I hate dealing with scammers, and other annoyances.

Keep in mind, I'm the nutjob that got a telemarketer call at work two days before going on vacation to LA. I tracked down the number, and oddly enough, the office was 2.4 miles from my brother's apartment in Van Nuys.

    Yeah, they got visited.

Phone numbers aren't posted on the actual auction page. You have to go through the site index and look up "user contact information". It's been 10 years since I signed up but they used to require a valid phone number as part of the registration process. But be forewarned if you request the contact info yours is sent to them as well...

    Stiff -

I understand this; I've been a member of eBay for almost a decade now. Any idiot with a $1 bid on your item can get that contact info without your permission first. I don't give a rat's arse if I get his (probably bogus sunglasses or new-user) contact info in the bargain; I don't want some toe-rag giving my business phone number out to his buddies to spam/scam/radio-jam me with...

I understand your point as well. It's just when I buy/bid on some of the stuff on Ebay I want to know someone actually exists on the other other end. I've retracted a few bids just for that fact. I emailed the seller, no response.
Got the sellers contact info, either no phone or a bad phone number. No deal for me. There are just too many scammers on their anymore....

Oh yeah, I agree on that. It is not unreasonable to expect an answer on a question about an item; particularly high ticket items. I consider seller non-response sufficient cause to withdraw a bid for sure. I mean, use your common sense - if you email a seller 2 hours before auction close, it's absurd to EXPECT a response in that short a time; but give 'em a day & no answer? Yeah... withdraw the bid.

The truth is after almost 10 years, I've only ever had one total dog of a transaction; they're the guys who hosed me & played that feedback game I posted about in another thread. I got out of that with only a "Feedback mutually withdrawn", so I consider myself lucky. The most prevalent issue I see on eBay now is the whole thing where someone completely mis-describes an item; claims a 13" screen when it's a 12", posts a newer model # than delivered, etc. Things that can be passed off as "simple error". Then when you call them on it, they're all like "Well, you got a good deal on your auction anyways." So what ever happened to GETTING WHAT YOU BID ON? Its SO prevalent now that when I get a conscientious seller like blindcenterNV, I am surprised...
