Got my Mk2 almost two weeks ago, has a 40Gb hard drive in it, and while digging around found a SimpleTech PCMCIA adaptor sitting in the top card slot, fits the usual compact flash cards I'm used to at work for our Data Acquisition System software we use on the project side of our research aircraft.
Anyways, am looking at buying a 16Gb or 32Gb flash card online (ebay of course) to add in as an extra drive, see all kinds for various prices, but would this be a reasonable way to increase or double my HD space for various things like, storing movies and music on full time without using up HD space? Is there a certain Mb or X speed I should be looking at? All kinds of options for th latter, at various prices, but some 32Gb cards are less than 1/3 the price in store............... questions being, good cheap idea? And what X or Mb/s should I be focusing on? Don't need ripping fast, but don't the the lingo past 50% and don't know many of the ramifications any of my choices would make with my system.
Thanks

The prices I see for these cards would it not be cheaper to just upgrade the harddrive

Seems like more work and effort to do that, plus having to get the OS installed, etc. I can get a 32Gb for about $70 at the cheapest, is why am considering it, especially since I have the CF adaptor already doing nothing.

Those PCMCIA to CF adapters can be bought for $4 or $5 including shipping. Not expensive enough to think you will save much $$ going this route. But if you do this, look for CF cards that support UDMA 5 or 6 and at least 300X. Slower cards will be .....mmmm..... slower.

I bought the Sandisk PCMCIA adapter from a china seller for $3.99 last year and found it very slow. I just found that the cards are just too high priced. The price of the external HDD's have dropped a lot that I picked up a seagate go 500gb drive for $50.00 and when I need it I just run the line from my OEM Toughbook case to the 29...These cases are great and a must have for any 28, 29, 30 or31 made by info case. I have one for my 29 and 30 . The picture shows the one for the 30/31...the 29 has 2 pockets in the front and the toughbook name on the flap
. It's held on by velco.
Buying a high Gb compact flash for my CF-29, is it worth it?
