I caught this in another thread and hadn't heard of it before. Can a CD/DVD ROM be modded into a RW even easier than just a CD ROM? Are there more/less steps?

I feel my CD/DVD ROM is a little weak without at least CD R/W capabilities.

Yes... The mod step is the same... soldering of the R2 spot is it... Yu just need to get a good IDE DVD R/W module!

It's even easier of you get a Panasonic brand CD-RW burner (with DVD ROM if you want). As long as the new optical drive is a Panasonic, you don't need to do the resistor mod, just swap the new drive into the old chassis and plug it in. But it must be an older IDE type, the newer SATA optical drives won't work.

    It sometimes works
I have usually purchased the cd caddy
    Always used Panasonic dvd-rw drives
Even if it won’t boot, the mod is an easy one
It will drive you on to be more adventurous lol

I have done the mod a couple of times and it really is easy. The nice thing is the prices have come down so much, you can swap out the old CD ROM for a DVD burner instead of just a CDRW, even lightscribe if you want! Now, if we could only finger out a way to upgrade the graphics (especially on the older TB's) we could upgrade to a Blu-Ray burner! Man, those 25GB and 50GB discs would certainly help with storage!
