I thought I read somewhere that the toughbook CD/DVD drives were hard selected to master or slave...Does anyone here know anything about this? I'm trying to replace a defective DVD combo drive in my CF-48 and want to be sure I get the right setup. I am currently using a Toshiba (made by toshiba for their laptops) slimline CD ROM in it and that works fine.

I have a CF-28 and recently changed from a CD player to a CD R/W-DVDW/R and it works great. (I thought I posted it around here somewhere.) Anyway... Yes... The Panasonic Toughbook CD & DVD drives are master from the factory. Most slimline DVD/CD drives come from the manufacturer as cable select. All you need to do is to short out one spot on the PC board in the drive casing to make it work correctly. Otherwise your laptop will not boot up. (At least the CF-28s won't) The spot to short on the CF-28 board was R202. The connections on the PC board are so clse together you can either solder in a small blob of solder or use a small 000 resistor if you want/need it neat looking. Then plug it in and fire it up! Search for my post here to read about it...

Please post back how it goes...
