    hi all

been modding my CF-18, it has an old Edge modem in the back and would be nice to get it to work for browsing etc. but what would be even better is a latter modem upgrade i'm guessing 4G is out of the question. however does anyone know the best way to get good mobile data speeds? without a dongle.

    Thanks Guys

Would a PCMCIA Card modem work for you?

Mmmmm. Problem with them is they stick out of the flap, or need the flap open for signal? Which may not be wise while I'm outside getting rained on.

But if there is one that fits inside the locking flap and works then yeah would be great.

Mmmmm. Looks like it will stick out. My one already has the antennae and hot keys on I just need the replace the card inside, surely it can't be that difficult.

It depends on what daughter card your model has. Most of them don't have the m-pci-e type cards. I have seen pictures of them for the CF-18 but haven't personally had one in my hand. You would have to get one of those daughter boards to start with. But even then the BIOS may limit what cards you can use. Your other option would be to use something like this.

Then do a internal USB mod, this way it should let you use any card without the bios restriction. I have one on order to it hasn't made it to the house yet so I don't know how good it works.
