I have a cf_18 mk3. The touch screen stopped working all of a sudden. I checked the bios and it is enabled there. I reloaded the driver. Still nothing. It came loaded with windows xp pro. Do I need to load windows tablet? please help.

Please provide the full model #. It helps with long distance diagnosis. Also...it worked and then quit or it quit after a program change?
    1. Cause one = bad TS.
    2. Cause two = broken wire in loom wrapped around the swivel. (Happened to me once----repairable) Do you use the swivel a lot?
    3. Bad connection. Corrosion.

I do use the swivel a lot. It was working and in the middle of a session it stopped working.

How do I check out the loom?

Lift keyboard out of the way. It's double sided taped down. Get under all the layers of the KB when lifting it.
Remove center plate covering plugs to loom. The white plug is TS.
Open (split) lid. Locate PCB with white plug and FPC to Touchpanel.
Check continuity of the red harness.
If a break is indicated splice in a thin wire in the lid and in the bottom cabinet. The break will be at the swivel which is a bad place for a splice. So:
    ------------------------------NEW WIRE-----------------------------------------
    Plug_____splice_________________________________splice____Plug
    ---------------------------------WRAP-------------------------------------------
It's up to you how you feed the wire through and around the swivel. I would recommend NOT removing the loom. Removing is tedious replacing is nigh impossible.
It's no harder than soldering hair together. :) Shrink tubing would be good for the solder joints.

Been there/Done that and it's still working AFAIK.

Option 2 replace the whole harness. Easier as long as you don't take the nut off the bottom of the swivel piece and forget how it goes back. You don't need to pull it anyway. You can buy a harness with swivel on ebay. I had to get one from Australia. Caution: Get the Touchscreen set. The digitizer has three plugs.

    Good luck,

    Jeff
