    I now own a cf 27. Its great to be able to jump onto the toughbook bandwagon. But i still have a few questions. I love this laptop. oh, and my serial# is cf 27ej6kree :)
    1. Do i have a touchcreen?
    2. i have a sim card slot next to the ram. What does it do? can i use it?
    3.the batterie is now dead. it holds about 10 mins of juice. could i re-cell it?. i have read a bit about doing it, but is it realy that hard? :confused:
    4.I have a cool antena to the left of my screen. i know that its hooked upto the simcard thingy, but do i realy still need it?

    Thanks for any help

    Welcome to the forum HoilerNerd - the first step on a very slippery slope.

    The CF 27EJ model is something of a mystery. I'm sure it will have a UK keyboard and I suspect they were manufactured especially for British Gas or British Telecom or someone like that.

    E=300Mhz
    J=12.1" non touch screen
    6=6.4Gb HDD
    K=128Mb onboard ram
    E=UK spec.

    Look here for some more details.

    In answer to your questions:

    1. As above, the answer is no, but it's not that bad really, since the LCD of the non-touch is much brighter.
    2. This accepts a SIM for a mobile phone data plan, but the technology of the internal modem is very old (probably an old RIM model). I did try one some years back and you could still make and receive calls through it then, with the appropriate software added, but I doubt that it will work any more.
    3. I believe others have tried, but it is beyond my technical capabilities. You'll be very lucky to find a battery now that has anything more than an hour's life. If you need to use it on the road, better to look for a compatible car charger.
    4. You are right - it looks cool, but is pretty much redundant. Once the bug really bites, have a look at bigbadbob's thread, which details a mod to fit internal gps which utilises the antenna space for a ceramic patch antenna. Then you'll know the Toughbook bug has really bitten!

    Have fun and be prepared to start buying more :)

    Thanks for your help, Old Git, I bought by tough book in the UK, last sunday, And therefore has all the Uk bits and bobs, but it has a Panasonic original start-up screen, so it must of not been used by BT.
    What software did you use to get the internal modem working? I would love to try to get mine to work.

    Thanks!
