New to the forum but I searched and didnt find anything.

I have several older cf 27's in a fleet of vehicles. One has a broken on/off switch. Is this something that I can fix. Fairly computer literate. I've never had the CF 27 apart before. Is there a tutorial anywhere for this? Where can I order a switch?

    Thanks much in advance!!!

    Happy Holidays to all.

    Mark

I've never ripped a CF-27 apart, but I'd imagine you could swap it all out if you had a parts machine.

I don't have the service manual for the CF-27, but if anybody wants to email it to me, I'll host it for everybody else.

Here's a quick pic of the underside of a P-266 CF27 motherboard. Look in the bottom left corner, you will see an itty bitty switch with the designation "SW2". This is the bottom side of the board. The switch cannot be seen from the top because the IR LEDs are directly on top of it. It is a momentary-contact, spring return switch. If you disassemble the computer to this point, the switch shouldn't be too hard to replace. If the computer in question happens to be a P-266, I would be happy to send you a motherboard to replace yours with.

If anyone's got this i'd love to see it! I'm sure there must be one for the 27 but it hasn't been distributed like the one for the 28

On a similar note of manual/driver hosting, make sure when you get the 600mW cards that you send me a copy of the driver. It's not available on the Engenius site.

I'll see if I can look around though for the CF-27 manual.

A similar question on CF-28? What's the best way to simply extend the function of the power switch to be used remotely? I have the CF-28 service manual, but haven't looked closely enough yet to determine what kind of switch CN7 is.

Can I just run some wires out to another momentary push switch (single-pole, double-pole, whatever it is) and have that work? I haven't taken it apart far enough yet to see, is there a convenient place to tap in to that, without soldering on the mobo?

My thinking is you may be able to do just that with the accessory / docking connector on the back .....when you dock it,, you can turn it on and off with the Master power switch so you should be able to rig up a remote switch of some kind.

You just need a single momentary contact closure of any sort. A small flatblade screwdriver across the terminals on the mobo works when a switch isn't handy :)

gravitar, I was hoping it was just a SPST switch. I haven't been inside it that far, is there anyplace not too hard to solder to, and then run the wires outside? and Kyote, that sounds potentially easier. Is that connector available anywhere except in a docking station?

Your guess is as good as mine.. lol
I would think it's a proprietary Panasonic connector....

On a 28, I would just solder to the back of the switch connector. That way you could do it from the switch or from a remote contact

Modly... It's a pretty much universal driver for the Atheros based cards...

I think that's the driver for the 400mW card though. I was reading somewhere that the driver on the CD is the one you want to use for 600mW cards, because the one online won't know the difference and run at a lower power level.

Not confirmed info, but it'd be nice to make sure.

I run that program for my 400mw & 600mw cards. There is a power controller in the options somewhere.

    Mark,
    Your lucky day!
I just happen to have a few 27's parts machines laying around and both have good switches in them.
    PM if you are interested.

Try this out. There are some differences between the mark 4 and the others but this should cover most of it.
