This is my refurb unit i have had for a wk or 2. When i disconnect the power the unit starts to make a whining sound until i plug it back. When used on battery power i only get around 20 to 30 min. I hope that is not the average usage time.
Its an mk3. Touch model.

does the powerbrick whine, or the laptop whine??
if its a professional refurb it should have some sort of warranty, then id send it back - batteries can last from 0mins to upto 4-5 hours, its a lottery, but the refurb I had warrantied the battery for 3hours -
its the laptop that whines since the power is disconnected. yes it comes with warranty i just plan on exchanging for another unit.

Just be advised that most "refurbs" on ebay are not truly refurbished. They just load the OS (Sometimes) and pack it up to ship it out. They just think that "refurbished" sounds better than "Used".... Pick someone with perfect feedback and a long history of selling Toughbooks and you'll be okay.

Who was the seller?

Well i got it from circuit city for $360 with $45 cashback. I have the touchscreen model. I definitely would buy it from ebay or this forum but that deal seems really hard to beat, not to mention it does not really look that used at all i was extremely surprised only the bottom showed use but the top and sides were all clean.
I checked my battery level with bepro and it shows it at 98% even though its plugged in and been fully charged, so i assume the battery is faulty.
I am waiting for my return label to exchange it. But i thought i would try and mess around with it to fix it, perhaps recalibrate it overnight. -
Never mind, I found them, not a bad deal. -
I think the regulars here will suggest running recalibration a couple of times. Update us when you resolve that whiner and ya, welcome to the forum.

Its your battery who are creating that strnge noise. Its also a sign of near retirement.

I figured as much so thats why i am exchanging. I did the calibration anyways just to mess around with it and it went up to 99% from before it was stuck at 98%, i will try again and maybe get the full %.
I wish they were mk5s at circuit city. But for a little over $300 for an mk3 i cannot complain especially since its touch. -

So i did another calibration now im at 100% so i went from a max capacity of 98% to full with 2 calibrations. Thats pretty cool, i wish all laptop makers included calibration in the bios.
