Was trying to figure out how to get my CF 29 connected to my older big screen tv. Hoping to use the VGA output on the laptop and either s cord in to the tv or rca jacks.
Has anybody here had luck using this method? Oh, and if there is an existing thread, I would be grateful for a link; I tried the search function, but came up empty handed.
If it is possible to go VGA to tv, do you guys think anything on ebay is okay, or do I need to go with a particular brand?
Thanks in advance for any input.

you can't do that. the signals for VGA are not the same as those a tv expects. you'll need a VGA->composite/s-video box to do the conversion. Any of the basic converters will do, the more expensive ones (eg. Extron, Miranda, Leitch, etc.) for broadcast have better filters to prevent shimmering, moire, etc.

Just look on fleabay for "VGA scan converter"; you'll find OODLES...

Does not scan well. -
What determines the sharpness of the picture using this method? The video card? And if so, what about it? The clockspeed? memory? everything?

A little off topic here. Woober, where the h@ll does one buy a cup of coffee at 5:30 AM in Kallispell? I was completely stumped last year and it seems the issue is going to come up again this fall. If I was a little younger I would be introducing Montana to Dunkin' Donuts and getting rich!

I tried what you're not doing already.
Get a converter box, or a new tv. i bought a "converter cable" and tried to make my own. The problem is making the output sync to match the tv, but then it doesn't match your display, so you can't see what you're doing to do it.
Get the box, and they're right, the quality is just not as good, as the converter boxes drop the resolution down, and your old big screen is only going to be displaying 480 lines per inch. good enough to do stuff, but crappy for games and movies
