FWIW, ToughWiki has service manuals that have the exact process as defined by the factory.

Just making fun. Didn't know the heat sink was that easy to get to. One of these days I will dive in with the thermal. every style of processor has it's special way it needs to be applied. Guess I need to search for that thread if it exist.

Most of those guides are really screwed up. Every time the authors refer to the battery they actually show the harddrive. Every time they refer to the harddrive, they show the battery. There is no discrete sound card. They are actually referring to the wlan card. Many other errors exist.

Everyone of us has there own technique. Mine is very simple even if its not a toughbook or any other electornics component without a manual. Just be cautious and mark every layer near the screw before you unscrew it. That way you will not be lost when you assemble it again. Like this CF-51 dual core that bought recently for 37buck with caddy and battery. All the scratches, abused that you can imagine on this unit, dirty from top to buttom. I disassebled this without the manual in order to clean, disenfect and repaint. Now! its like new again.

While not perfect, I think the guides with those excellent photos would be a great asset to anyone attempting to disassemble a CF 29 for the first time. Anyone ever build something from Ikea? Or anything with Chinese English instructions? Nothing is perfect, but while those guides won't do the repair for you, they will assist. Some skill and common sense are still needed.
If someone can't figure out the error of which sides the battery and hard drive are on, then perhaps they should "step away from the screwdriver"
