I just got my first CF 30 from eBay today. The seller claimed that he installed win 7 and the touchscreen quit working.

So it came today and it is a MK1 with the Fujitsu USB touchscreen.

My first clue that something was wrong was that there was NO touchscreen toggle in the BIOS.

So, I called my friends at 1 800 LAPTOP5 and the first tech actually told me that it is NORMAL for a MK1 to NOT have the toggle in the BIOS.

So, even though I knew better (I wanted to very badly believe that tech) I set off on what turned out to be a 5 hour quest to get the touchscreen working.

I took 7 off and put XP on and very carefully installed all of the MK1 drivers from the japan site IN THE EXACT ORDER RECOMMENDED, and still no luck.

Turns out that with the MK1 Fujitsu panel there is a self installing executable in the driver itself.

Bottom line - no luck. So I called Panasonic back and talked to a "senior" tech who promptly told me the first tech was crazy and assured me that if the toggle is not in the bios there is no touchscreen or the control board is bad.

Help - which tech is right? Is there some secret to installing my touchscreen drivers?

1 : we need your model number first
2 : to upgrade to windows 7 you need to update the bios to the vista one
3 : so what bios version do you have

I am looking at my 30 now and there is nothing about a touchscreen and yes mine is a touchscreen.
anytime you are looking for answers please check this out first...this could save you a lot of time *READ BEFORE POSTING**The Ultimate Toughbook Resource Thread* in here you would of found this Windows 7 on a CF-30 MK1 . CF-30 MK1 with working TS in W7....nothing in bios TS works fine. Appears in device manager as HID....it's a USB device. My MK1 units do not have TS in bios. (5 of them)
CF-30 MK2 has TS in bios.
You may have a bad TS. I'll edit in a bit with version from bios.

My CF-30 mk1 has the Vista BIOS & EC. The touchscreen enable/disable thing in BIOS is *NOT* there. It still works perfectly. I'm running XP too. So apparently this Vista BIOS (V1.00L20) and EC (V1.10L10) also works with XP.

OK sorry I had trouble with my router last night Thank you for your great answers.

    It is a CF-30CTSAZBM

The touchscreen shows up in the DMI viewer but not in the bios.

    BIOS = V1.00L16

is there a secret to installing the TS driver other than running the executable in the MK1 driver package as recommended by Panasonic?

the recommended order is found on the japan site and is included in the list of drivers. it is a PDF called installation instructions - this is the order that the techs at 1800 LAPTOP5 recommend as the proper order.

Thanks, but not interested in doing a win 7 installation - I switched it back to XP and still cannot get the TS working.

I am running the executable contained in the Mk1 driver package which installs the Fujitsu usb panel and still have a dead TS.

Is there a special secret to doing this?

Finally figured it out. I finally talked to a tech that walked me through it and I found out that the TS is indeed bad.

And thanks to you guys I now know that the TS does NOT show in the BIOS on a mk1 :)

The bad news is that Panasonic Heartland wants 350 shipped for the kit which includes the TS and the PC board.

I'm sure Sadlmkr Jeff will respond to this, and I believe he will be able to help you out for much less than Heartland :) You could also keep posting here until you get enough posts to pm and then send Jeff a pm.

    Recommend:
    1. PM techtuff through this forum and order a panel.....or
    2. Send it to me and I'll put a panel in...return mail in two days (3 if I get it Saturday) due to three days a week mail service....or
    3. Send it to me and I'll repair the existing panel. Same deal on the mail.

If you want to learn I very much recommend #1.

Sadlmkr ...link below takes you to my web page eventually :)..

Yup! I saw this auction too, and it gave me an idea. I have a pile of cf 29 1.2's here that have touchscreens.

So when I saw that this auction was saying the 29 and 30 use the same screen I robbed one out of a 29 and put in my 30 and it calibrated right up and works great :)

So, if anyone has ever wondered if they could put a 29 TS in a 30 - now you know! It works GREAT and the best part is it was FREE!!

    Thanks everyone :) :) :)
