I have one that came with my Cf-29 and it works fine with both the 29 and 30. However, I'm not very impressed with it's design. Yes, one end can be screwed into the computer -- but the other end is still just a standard USB connector. So, instead of a tug on the USB cable pulling the connection out of the computer, the tug pulls the connector out of the adapter 6 inches away from the computer. ????

I believe the function of the cable is to protect the USB socket more than preventing accidental disconnects.

Yeah its so if you are constantly plugging and unplugging a USB peripheral which wears down the USB socket, you are just replacing a quick and easy cable rather then having to send the Toughbook back for repair.

And I seem to have noticed that Panasonic does not use the best of USB sockets, especially in my CF-30s. The side socket in the MK1 is feeling like its on it's last legs.

Are you saying the CF 30 is not built to the Tough Standard?

That would justify using a $5 short USB cable - but the $20 extra for the screw doesn't seem to accomplish much.

I'm just saying that Panasonic does drop the ball now and again. I love my Toughbooks but they aren't perfect. Some recent touch screen issues come to mind.
