So i have an original panasonic dvd drive for the cf 30 with the caddy that i had tried putting another drive in which did not work
I put the original back and it gets power and ejects but is not recognized in windows

The cable adapter looks fine and as i recall there was no R2 mod

Did the original drive work before you tried the swap? If you did not try it, I would guess bad drive.
The replacement drive may be a cable select. I can't recall how picky the cf30's are.
Maybe try the drives in a usb enclosure to confirm if they are functional.
