    Hi All,

1st post so apologies if i have missed this info anywhere,
My cf 53 decided to play up after being on for a few hours the other day the behaviour is as follows

if i power on it will come on to panasonic splash screen but windows cant auto repair and after reboot fan runs and Hdd light blinks but it wont boot. If i leave it overnight until battery drains it will go back to stated position where it boots once and shows the splash screen. it was quite toasty on the bottom of the case when i shut it down.

i have it in bits to repaste the cpu and am interested to know what size thermal pad it requires for the gpu?
    and any recommendations please.

next issue on disassembly the connection on the cmos battery lead broke up, does anyone have a link or could point me in the direction of a new battery for this please. The ones i saw on ebay the connector didn't quite look right and none stated cf 53 compatible.

Any help or advice with these issues is greatfully received Thanks

Post a Pic of the battery connector. Have you tried a different hard drive? Possible the disk went bad

Hi and thanks for the reply, the connector on the battery leads broke up when trying to remove. The board connection is fine. as for the hard drive its a 500gb ssd and when i remove it from the caddy and connect to another pc all the data is available, and windows finds no errors with the disk, its like the boot sector got screwed. The cpu paste was crispy when i removed the heatsink. how do i upload pics to a post?

Took a punt on a £3 ebay battery, connector looks ok and the only difference is that the lead is a bit longer. i will update when i put this back together along with the thermal pads i use to help others in the future.

    hi all,

used a 1.5mm thermal pad on gpu no problem with that.
    cmos battery worked great

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323268070163

on putting back together it showed similar behaviour so i will be trying a new hdd in the caddy to see if that is the cause.
I can't find much else regarding its behaviour anywhere, if i leave disconnected from the mains with the battery removed for a while it reboots but otherwise it runs a few times then when powered off it wont restart.
so in summary the behaviour is starts once goes to load windows but fails due to corrupted boot sector then if i power off when i try to turn back on the HDD light flashes at me briefly and then it turns off again.
i have another 500gb ssd somewhere which i will fit inside the caddy at some point but am open to any ideas or suggestions.

Is it because i'm a newbie that i cant post pics as i tried to drag and drop to a previous post and it would not let me.

    Thanks all and merry christmas.

found an old sata hdd lying around so fitted it to the caddy and boom works fine, installed windows just to see cpu temp 58 - 64 degree's celcius.
I seem to have an error that if i try to start toughbook with the charger plugged in it freaks out and wont start.
once its like this i need to leave it with the battery removed for a few hours and then it will reboot and run fine.
Is this the A C protection activating? is this also me needing a new power pack?
Thanks for any help or advice offered

Yes. If I remember right you have to have 6 posts before you are allowed to post pictures or send personal messages. (Someone correct me if that number is wrong.)

EDIT: If RAM module is bad, it can cause weird problems. Try removing one stick, then the other, and see if problems go away. You might download a memory tester too. Passmark seems to have bought MemTest. Try their MemTest86:

Thanks for this, got a usb stick ready to try this but cant get it to boot. checked battery voltage and its 12.2v dc and battery rated at 10.8v dc, is this high as it seems it to me but i have little experience with these batteries. Powerpack rated at 15.6v dc and is delivering exactly that. its a genuine panasonic unit model cf-AA5713AM1 powerpack. what was odd when i 1st ran laptop after thermal paste it sat around 68 degrees bit when it last ran it got to 100 on cpu then cooled to 64 - 70 degrees celcuis.
I will run memtest if/when the laptop boots but currently it wont boot and i have few spares to interchange on it.
When battery discharged it measured 10.4 v dc
Once again thanks for all replies on this.

after repasting with arctic silver 5 on cpu and afterwards realising that gelid thermal pads are not great the toughbook wont boot and has cooked another hdd, it is on 6500 hours so is it worth me replacing the thermal pad and retrying? anyone recommend a thermal pad they have used, arctic silver has always been good for xbox360 cpu's etc and never let me down. open to all ideas thanks
