Great little machines, but with 1" SSD. http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/28-days-with-the-cf-u1.700414/ I have some info on the SSD in this thread.

16gb, 32gb, 64 gb is about all you can get for them.

16gb will run out quick. In my thread posted above you can see what speed it will run at and how much space you will have after a reload.

I would recommend at least a 32 if you can. You can expand the storage memory with a SD card.

    • Panasonic Toughbook U1
    • Atom Z530 / 1.6 GHz
    • Windows 7 Pro
    • 2 GB RAM
    • 64GB SSD
On another site I also see mention of GPS for this unit.
You have a Mk2, the 2gb of ram with run windows 7 pretty smooth.

    I have a Mk2 I got to finish rebuilding, I have 6 or 7 U1's right now.

You do have a nice model with the Mk2. In my review with windows 7 I knew it dragged some, but still ran better than vista. I haven't tried the U1 with 2 GB of ram yet, but every other atom device I have messed with going from 1gb to 2 gb of ram on them with windows 7 has upped the performance of them alot.

i seen the carrier in ador's thread ...
the picture at the site i linked to looks nothing like the *real* one ... or maybe i am not seeing things correctly .
(makes me question the integrity of the site if it is not the correct picture)

then the gist of it is that :
there is a cheap(er) solution in an after market ssd
the above only applies if one has the carrier in their hands

but still it will be much more *cost effective* if one has to purchase a carrier off of cheesebay or another source .

My 256GB SSD is faster. Mod complete, either one of my old drives for sale $10, take your pic. I even made a CF-U1 drive to USB adapter. No mods needed to the drive, hooks to the caddy.
