I have dismantled this unit due to overheating, was quite surprised that they are simply cooling it with a copper pad type thing

We applied new compound to the chips but we are not able to get the copper pads back in place as there was some glue/ tape type thing holding it and wanted to find the best way to get it back together

If you have worked on this model before you would have an idea, if not i can get some photos

Working on my CF 30 was easy as pie and its cooling system was great, but on this model i find it to be lacking

I am getting ready to split the case on my T7 later today (If I get everything else on the 52 ford done today, go it on the trailer this morning ready to go to town) for the same thing. It is starting to get warm under load.

i took a look and actually ordered the tape, your right it is used for ram chips

but the tape on the toughbook cpu and gpu is much thicker, it sort of has a felt fabric type feel because after you remove it, its split in half on both the chip and the heat sink
