Is there a complete service schematic manual for the CF-18 I have looked all over and can only find a reference manuals and xp integration docs.

    https://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/w...earch?langId=-1&storeId=15001&catalogId=13401

    From Toughbook support.

The other links to service manuals appear to be down :(
I was going to upgrade the 900mhz cpu. And add another GB of ram pc2700.

The ram is easy just under the speaker but I was hoping there would be a schematic guide before I startic taking this toughbook to peaces :)

No! you can't upgrade the CPU its soldered on the MBo not a socket type. Unless you know how by using a reflow station.

No probs with using my reflow station.
But are there any service schematic manual ?

Your also going to tell me the other 256 mb of ram is also solder on...
So I cant boost to 2gb?

    Thanks
    J.

You will need more than a reflow station, young Padawan... these are BGA, which means you can't get at the solder points with your hot air.

You'll need an infrared radiant rework station, a number of special chemicals and your hot air rework station to prep the board for the new CPU, the correct soldering paste application mask for the CPU you are working with, the correct formula soldering paste so you don't dissolve or burn up your PCB and a WHOLE LOT OF LUCK.

May the Schwartz be with you...

    Thanks :)

I'm off on Holiday from Saturday but when I return I`ll begin the work...
And take photos of the cf-18 being dismantled and let you know how it went..

Fingers crossed lady luck will be on my shoulder..

This is the CPU I plan to replace with:

    Pentium M 2GHz
    2MB L2 Cache
    Dothan Core.
    Socket 479
    400FSB Version

Sorry... I too wish you luck... But I'm sensing a severely mangled CF-18 Mobo somewhere in your future...

I think you should try your skill on a cf-27 or something like that just because of the shear cost of 18 compared to the 27. I can donate you one if you would like. got then all over the place and I just use them for the keyboard.

:) Thanks for the offer Psych0Thrasher.
But I`m going to go with the CF-18  upgrade attempt..

A friend of mine gave me his, so it hasn't cost me a penny and all I use it for is running xubuntu and playing scummvm games when I travel..
